Deck discussion for U/B Tezzerator Infect

Cool deck, But what about 4 memnite

Thank you! I considered Memnite, but I can't figure out what to take out. I haven't play-tested it enough to take anything out yet, and sadly I don't have 4 Tezzeret's yet. I got one from pre-release and hopefully I'll pull more from the box I'm buying and from the midnight release.

consider ornithopter instead since its fling and you'll just pump it from Tezz

Ornithopter wouldn't be as good here I don't think. If Ornithopter is out there when Thopter Assembly is played you don't get the five 1/1's...and more artifacts makes Tezzeret's -4 ability more powerful

I'd suggest a couple Sphere of the Suns over Mox Opals... get up and going quicker, and by the time they're out of charges you can use Tezzeret to make 'em creatures. Also, I like Inkmoth Nexuses for their ability to become 5/5 flying infecters with Tezzeret. Maybe replace a Darksteel Axe or two with Sword of Feast and Famine? Creeping Tar Pit is unblockable, and that'd be a quick way to work up some mana while forcing discard. Finally, I'd consider sideboarding the Spreading Seas for a few more artifacts, maybe a few Walls of Tanglecord and either a Tumble Magnet or Wurmcoil.

But with the Sphere of the Suns, it does come cip tapped... and having the darksteel axes is really good because they are indestructible..... Playing against 5/5 indestructible things kinda wreck your day when they're Darksteel axes and you just got DoJed. I've played against this dek a few times, and I've played with it once and for the most part it seems solid when you don't get a land pocket.... maybe a couple of Darksteel plates would be nice but like I said, it's pretty solid

I'm wary about having four of any planeswalker in a deck (except maybe Sarkhan the Mad). Maybe take one out for a Jace? Otherwise, solid deck, looks like you'll surprise quite a few people. :)

It's too much of a one-trick pony in its old setting... I've had some redundancy and other answers. Tezzeret is no longer my only winning condition (which is scary with u/b decks out there, and my meta game is almost all goblins/vamps/knights right now), and he is a good finisher. Also thinking Wurmcoil, but I strangely enough, do not own any... so I'm more working with what I own (got all my tezzy's essentially).

Once again, changed it again into a Treasure Mage toolbox... trying to find the right fit for Tezzeret. He's very difficult to build around, but it's worth the challenge.

This is quite an interesting deck. I wonder where Tezzeret really belongs? He's like Venser, you have to either build around him or not play him at all. End of story.

I agree jimmysmith, I'm still trying to find Tezzeret's perfect place, this deck has changed so much since pre-release it's not even funny! Once again I've changed it... mostly because the meta-game right now is all rush. So I dropped two ratchet bombs into main board, and 2 into sideboard. It helps a lot.

Thanks man! I really enjoy playing it. Ratchet Bomb has made this deck so much deadlier than it used to be, and I love ruining Goblin player's days.

Tezzeret seems almost extra in the deck, like you don't even need him... he's just a nice addition. I'm sure the Thopter tokens or the Revoker are nice turning into 5/5's lol

Sadly, he's the next thing to come out. But I do (like you said) love turning a Revoker into a 5/5 or a Thopter token (and also turning a Wurmcoil into a blue creature is very funny). Grand Architect is turning into one of my favorite creatures also.

This deck is kindaaaaa similar to my tezz deck, lol.
but i really couldn't play artifacts without temepered steel, so i spalsehd some white.
like think if you bounce a thopter assembly, with steel on the field. you now have 5 3/3s with flying. (:
and steel overseer could do well, too.

but control or not, i think with all the 6 drops you'll be mana screwed. yes this is a control deck, but you only have 4 mana leaks (which you should definitely switch for stoic rebuttle) and 4 go for the throat. so if i were you i'd add some etched champions in the place of some of those 6 drops.

Deck looks good so far..

..but did you try Myr Battlesphere yet? It rocks, and it has a much faster 'enters the battle' effect than the Thopter Assembly with tezzy's -4 ability. Not only that, but if it attacks, especially after using tezz -4, that's yet another 4 direct damage to the FACE! lol And then they have to contend with the sphere itself.

Just something to think about.

Oh, yah.. and Inkmoth Nexus as an extra win condition? 5/5 infect flying is a 2 turn clock that can't be hit by DOJ or sorcery effects.

0

It can be hit by doj. tezz's effect overrides the land effect, so it stays a 5/5 artifact creature.

Ahh.. you are correct. My bad.. Tezz's ability is permanent, so it doesn't revert back to JUST a land. At least you can pay the 1 to give it Flying and Infect again, so either way it's a 2 turn clock, so it's a worthy addition, even if you only use it as a 1/1 flying chump blocker with infect, it's still good.

IMO any Tezz deck should run at least 2 Inkmoth Nexus.

@ EthanLewis: I originally splashed white in for Tempered Steel and all of my artifacts and artifact creatures were indestructible, but it was too gimmicky and too reliant on Tezzeret being on the battlefield. I have had almost no land issues, and with 7 blue creatures in the deck, I almost always have the ability to drop my 6 costers for 4 or less mana. I do only have 4 Mana Leaks, but that's mostly to set myself up for being able to drop bombs and rip them apart. I haven't had a chance to take it into a tournament yet, but this FNM I'll be hitting it up and seeing what happens.

@ Scorpio7777: I haven't tried Myr Battlesphere, but that's not a bad idea at all! And with Treasure Mage I can run 1 or 2 of and still get it out when I want it (with draw, search, and random luck). I might have to give it a try! I don't like infect, and I don't think Inkmoth Nexus is all the good in a Tezzerator deck, because you first, activate it. Then use Tezzeret's -1 ability, turning it into a 5/5 flying infect creature. At EoT it stops being flying and infect, and just becomes a 5/5 vanilla creature. So then on your next turn, you activate it again, further reverting it into a 1/1 flying infect, and you have to use Tezzeret's ability again. It's too much unnecessary work and far too combo reliant. It can also be very situational and dead-weight in hand.

I like this a lot... Gave me a similar idea... Just gotta build it amd I send a link your way when I do.

I'm really umfamiliar with Planeswalkers, so I don't really have much advice for this deck... But then again it looks like it doesn't need too much changes anyway :-)

Well done!

inkmoth nexus doesn't really work that well... it's a 1/1 flying infect, then tezz makes it a 5/5 flying infect (which is awesome) but then it's just a 5/5 artifact creature when the ability wears off. when you activate inkmoth, it reverts to a 1/1 infect flyer. you gotta keep using tezz on it. while it's a 2 turn clock provided they have no flyers or removal, it's inefficient. i like the deck, but it just seems too fragile. jace is your most solid card, and while tezz is good, he's too little to rely on in this format. maybe do what the others have said and put in quicker creatures for tezz to work with and i'd even play prophetic prism. Now before you call me a bad magic player, think: it can trips, it filters, and it would be a 5/5 with tex\zz. creatures like that cost like 7 mana and you'd get it for two and some loyalty. i like the use of mox opal, but the legendary is a deterrent. darksteel ax was a good idea, and maybe dread statuary for a better manland base? creeping tar pit also, despite it's lack of artifactness...

@ Whipsilk: I've changed it again (with new sets, I find decks to be constantly evolving) and main-boarded Black Sun's Zenith, 2 Ratchet mainboard, and 2 sideboard. With 4 Go for the Throat's also mainboard, if I don't have enough removal in the deck... I'm having terrible luck =)

I'm just lucky I guess? In like 30 games I've had mana issues once, maybe twice. I'm sure as soon as I take it to a constructed tournament, I'll get mana screwed (and it'll be your fault =P) and then probably up the land. But for now, I'm okay with my mana base.

he's got 22 lands... he doesn't need anymore... i rarely use more than 20 in a 60-card deck

hahaha I totally just jinxed it. and bellabom, the land isnt the issue, the mana curve is.

Haha, you definitely jinxed me =P last night I played three games and got land screwed 2/3... still did pretty impressively. I can work with 4 mana as long as I've got a grand architect! I still might go up to 24 anyway, when I originally built it, I was centered around extremely cheap and/or free artifacts so land wasn't really an issue anyway.

Very good deck playtested a few hands and it comes out very well.

I know this deck is T2 but when playing extended i'd drop a wurmcoil and a grand architect and add 2 time sieves as with the thoptor assembly it gives you infinite turns. :)

I like the idea of making a Tezz Infect deck and I think this one is very nice. Trying to make one of those for myselfe. I got a couple of questions. How does the black sun's zenith fit in here? The idea is to pump your myrs with tezz and get them through twice. They would be severely hit when pumped and otherwise be killed. I can see that the inkmoth nexus and creeping tar pit would not be affected. Creeping tar pit however doesn't deal infect counters so it is only good at killing planeswalkers and it slows down your deck. I don't know if that is a card you would usually sideboard but I have heard that tezz 2 is way better on turn 3. The wurmcoil engine has no infect either. Have you thought about swiching it with a blight dragon? After all if you get 6 poison counters in 4 more is all u need to win it.

The Creeping Tar Pit's and the Wurmcoil are for the Tainted Strike. Also, Tar Pit is amazing for killing planeswalkers, like you said. I've been toying with it for awhile, and it is constantly revamped and I really just love Tezzeret.
