How to Play

~~~~~Creatures~~~~~
Treefolk Harbinger typically tutors a Murmuring Bosk or Bosk Banneret, but also sets up Leaf-Crowned Elder perfectly.
Bosk Banneret is always a welcome draw, speeding the deck up by a turn.
Dungrove Elder gets lots of groans from my opponents, which led to a full 4. I must keep my forest count up.
Doran, the Siege Tower is obligatory in this deck and beast on turn three if my mana is right. I would run 3 if I had the room. He turns my Harbingers and Bannerets into 3/3 beaters. On the flipside, the casting cost is tough without Murmuring Bosk, his legendary status means poors draws sometimes, and he does make Tarmogoyf bigger.
Dauntless Dourbark gets VERY large, with an average of 6/6 on the turn I drop him. It is common to see 10/10+ with forests PLUS treefolk on the board. He tramples too.
Leaf-Crowned Elder creates card advantage and works perfect with Treefolk Harbinger. Harbinger -> Banneret -> LC Elder is a great curve. I wish I could put cards from my hand on top of my deck. The deck really wants to control the top of the library, so I tried out the G/B scrye land (Temple of Malady) for a few weeks, but I think keeping the forest count up is more important. I am considering Crown of Convergence, Drown in Sorrow, Oracle of Mul Daya, and Courser of Kruphix to help smooth Leaf-Crowned Elder triggers.
Woodfall Primus is a prime tutor target for Treefolk Harbinger with a Leaf-crowned Elder in play. Blow up a land if nothing else.
Eternal Witness grabs fetches, spells and dead dudes from the ‘yard. Also flips into play with Leaf-crowned Elder (they share shaman type)
~~~~~Spells~~~~~
Path to Exile - Modern is a format ruled by creatures and creature-based combos. This spell gives cheap, instant-speed removal. I would run my fourth Path to Exile before my first Dismember, Slaughter Pact, or Disfigure.

Abrupt Decay - This card recently saw cuts in the main deck. Could easily be a four of if I had the room. A lot of the time is takes out a creature, can I have multiple cards that can do this. I plan on having the other two in the side

Maelstrom Pulse - This card works so well next to Abrupt Decay. It cleans up what Decay misses. I will run #2 in the sideboard.

Golgari Charm is sweet. I believe this card helps GBx match-ups against Pod with the -1/-1 mode taking out a lot of their mana dorks, etc. In the Blue/Red/White control matchup, this provides regen in the face of Supreme Verdict. This probably took the spot of one Abrupt Decay, but I would have two in this main deck if I had the room. #2 will be in the sideboard.

5 x Discard - I feel this gives my deck an early line of play against decks where I need it. The inclusion of the discard suite marks where the deck went away from Treefolk beatdown with Black/Green control cards.

~~~~~Planeswalkers~~~~~
TESTING Liliana of the Veil - I am going to try her out. I know she’s powerful,, but I haven’t tested it. With a Leaf-crowned Elder playing the role of my Dark Confidant, I hope to still garner card advantage to pull ahead. Also, with Eternal Witness I can grab some goods that might have been pitched.
~~~~~Lands~~~~~
Murmuring Bosk doesn’t come into played tapped very often
Overgrown Tomb used to be a two-of, but I added another for Liliana . I cut a Forest and a Temple of Malady scryland. I thought the scrye would be good with Leaf-crowned Elder, but it hurt the Dungrove Elder and Dauntless Dourbark too often.
Temple Garden is still a forest ;-)
Stirring Wildwood is there to help a bit against fliers. I am not completely sold on this spot. Perhaps it should just be a Temple Garden
1 Plains and 1 Swamp just in case of Blood Moon effects.

~~~~~Sideboard~~~~~
Scavenging Ooze is there just to go toe-to-toe with Tarmogoyf. This spot could also be Relic of Progenitus.
Thrun, the Last Troll is a shaman that is free off the top with Leaf-Crowned Elder. Very good versus control.
Timber Protector indestructible forests & trees plus a lord effect. I would have 1 in the main deck if I had the room. This could swap with Woodfall Primus as a sweet tutor target. This guy will be brought in if I think they want to blow up my trees.
#3 & #4 Abrupt Decay
#2 Maelstrom Pulse
#4 Path to Exile against creature combo, Wurmcoil Engine, or manland hate.
#2 Golgari Charm against Birthing Pod and Supreme Verdict decks
Reach of Branches would go nicely if the match gets long and grindy. It provides card advantage and puts a token into play off Leaf-crowned Elder. Good with Bosk Banneret. Also requires high forest count.
Right now I have Creeping Corrosion for Affinity, but I think I may want to get Stony Silence in it’s place.
Reclamation Sage is there for Birthing Pod, maybe Tron, or if I need artifact/enchantment hate. Free off the top with Leaf-Crowned Elder.
Engineered Explosives against fast decks, hexproof…
Sword of Black & White against the mirror or if I expect targeted removal.
(This deck needs 4 Deathrite Shaman.)
