Deck Description

One of the goal is to maximize the utility of Prophet with card draw engines Prime Speaker, Revelation, and potentially Jace. The deck contains some good synergies in Nykthos/Polukranos/Colossus/Zegana, so it plays well even if Prophet is missing. Cyclonic rift also works well as a removal, seeing as this decks curves out from 12 mana dorks into giants like Zegana, Polukranos and Colossus. One mainboard Garruk is there to fetch creatures and drop bombs without the worry of being countered.

The BOTG addition of Courser of Kruphix really helps stabilize the board state in certain matchups (especially control), and not to mention adds GG to devotion.

Does well against mono-blue and mono-black (especially post boarding). Mistcutters, Gainsays, Aetherlings and Pithing Needle aid in the control matchup. The R/G Colossus counterpart is the only worrying matchup, for which Curse of the Swine, Nylea's Disciple and Detention Spheres help.

I'm excited about Bant potentially showing up in GP/PTQ and maybe even PT decks. Any feedback/comments are appreciated!

How to Play

vs. Control:
In Game 1 the goal is either try racing the opponent's Aetherling (that he/she undoubtedly had mainboarded or even sided in) by ramping into threats like Polukranos or Colossus, while ideally drawing into your spheres and rifts using Prime Speaker and Revelations. Post boarding, however, we rely more heavily on the Aetherlings and the Mistcutters as win conditions, while side-ing out the Polukranoses (Polukroni?) and the Arbor Colossuses (Colossi?). The 2 Garruks and Pithing Needle come in to ideally draw into your Aetherling and switch off their planeswalkers (or Aetherling if we don't draw into ours).

This matchup is a hit or a miss depending on what you draw into, but typically if you have an Aetherling/Mistcutter with a grip full of Gainsays, you're in good hands :).

vs. MUD:
Mistcutters and Gainsays are the crux of the plan against mono blue (post boarding). The Curses also come in to help clear big creatures and switch off Thassa. But otherwise, we just follow our noses, clutching to our Rifts until overloading it becomes a possibility!

vs. MBD:
Probably one of the better matchups for this deck. Eventhough all the creatures in this deck die to Doomblade (like so many good things in life do), post boarding this deck performs fairly well. The 4th Sphere, 2 Curses, Primordial and potentially the Pithing needle all come in to help in disrupting the opponent. Detention Sphere performs particularly well in removing Rats and Demons.

vs. Aggro:
This could include MRD (or RDW), GW/RG midrange, or even some of the weenie decks that are popular nowadays. Polukranos, Colossus and Prime Speaker perform fairly well here, being out of reach of most burns (though that's assuming Zegana lands when one of the other fatties are already in play). Adding Nylea's Disciples, Curses and potentially the Primordial to get rid of Domris, Spear of Heliods, or Assemble the Legions, this deck is pretty solid against this matchup.

However it should be noted that one particularly hard matchup for this deck is the R/G Devotion deck (the one played by Mihara during Pro Tour Theros). That deck can easily out race this one, and post boarding we heavily rely on Rifts, Detention Spheres and Coursers to help stabilize.
