Deck Description

I wanted a deck that was mono colored, a) to take advantage of a large amount of untapped lands, and b) I wanted to see if it would even work.

I played it at FNM last night (a small variation of the deck, the list reflects the changes that I would make for next week or the next time I get to play Standard) to a 2-2 finish. I beat a RUG control/superfriends deck and a BUG midrange deck, losing to a UG controlish kind of deck (not really sure how to describe it, but he drew literally like 6 Dissolves, it was weird) and mono-green devotion (which I totally forgot was even a thing).

The Mahamoti Djinn is really just a big fattie that I wanted to try out since most decks playing against you will side out most (if not all) of their removal. I doubt it'll be great, but it's a big dumb flier that represents some kind of reliable clock.

How to Play

The object of the deck is simple: counter literally everything until you can stick your own wincon (Jace, Aetherling, Mahamoti Djinn, or chaining Elixir and draw spells).

Patience is the name of the game, and don't jam your wincons early -- it's totally fine to have 9 or 10 lands out and then stick a Jace or Aetherling, because you're going to have counterspell backup for it. Since the deck can operate almost entirely at instant speed (the original version had Divinations over Font of Fortunes, but being able to tap out for a Font on turn 2 and then hold up the ability to crack it later on is nice), so you rarely have to tap out.

A note about Perilous Vault: since most decks don't have any true artifact removal, it's totally fine to tap out on turn 4 to stick it, and then just let it sit there and loom over your opponent. Crack it when you need a hard reset; most of the time this will end up with at least a 3 for 1 against the top 3 decks.
