Purphoros is a awesome commander for who want to play with a mono red aggro deck (aggro = aggresive play style). With this deck we want to abuse of his first ability, creating conditions to trigger as many times as possible, doing a lot of burn damage on our opponents. So, once Purphoros is on the battlefield, our game plan is based on casting and creating a lot of creatures. We don't care so much about how powerful they're cause every creature will deal 2 damage in everyone anyway. This will create pressure while we create a board full of small creatures, like goblins, eldrazis and elementals. Basically, the cards in this deck want to do three things: 1) create creatures; 2) create mana; 3) do more damage to enemies.Note: this deck isn't cheap but isn't optimized as well. Here you'll find a good base to understand this version of Purphoros and it's up to you cut some expensive cards or find better cards to improve it. The most expensive card is the commander itself. In a scale from 0 to 10 (0 being "gimme 100 cards and I'll play with this" and 10 "I can have every single card I want anytime, money isn't a problem", I think this deck is 7 or 8.
HOW TO PLAYThis deck is created to deal a lot of damage to our enemies and kill them all as fast as possible. Our strongest machine to do this is the commander, so I can tell the first priority is to cast him.FIRST STEPSTo do this, we have these 9 cards that can be casted in the early game to help us cast Purphoros:Skirk Prospector; Reiterate (to copy a mana ramp from an enemy); Fire Diamond; Mind Stone; Pyramid of the Pantheon; Ruby Medallion; Sol Ring; Star Compass; Unstable ObeliskHe have 4 CMC, so if we can cast him in the turn 3, PERFECT. In the turn 4 or 5, ok. If you need 6 or more turns to cast him, it could be a problem... think abour your hand and mulligan strategy, ok?CREATURESSSSSOnce the commander is on the battlefield, we want to spamm creatures. We have a lot of cards to do this. All the 20 creatures can do this (sometimes more than once or able to create more creatures) but there is more cards:Apex of Power; Descent of Dragons; Dragon Fodder; Empty the Warrens; Goblin Offensive; Goblin Rally; Hordeling Outburst; Krenko's Command; Kuldotha Rebirth; Mogg Infestation; Molten Birth; Skittering Invasion; Tempt with Vengeance; Goblin Warrens; Foundry of the Consuls; Hellion Crucible; Kher Keep; Spawnin BedSome of them will need you to sacrifice something but they are all worth.MORE DAMAGETo increase the damage done by Purphoros, there are some cards:Embermaw Hellion; Ginning Ignus; Norin the Wary; Insult; Panharmonicon; Impact Tremors; Quest for Pure Flame; Sulfuric VortexDRAW CARDSTo draw more cards:Solemn Simulacrum; Apex of Power; Endless Atlas; Hazoret's Monument; Howling Stone; Loreseeker's Stone; Mind Stone; Skullclamp; Sunset Pyramid; Desert of the Fervent; Forgotten Cave; Smoldering CraterFINAL PUSHThere are cards (Dualcaster Mage; Neheb, the Eternal; Mana Geyser, Mizzix's Mastery; Battle Hymn; Increasaing Vengeance; Reiterate; Mirrorpool) to help the final push or to ramp very aggresively. These cards will provide a lot of mana and the possibility to cast spells again or opponent spells.PROTECT THE COMMANDER / REMOVE THREATSSome cards can help us to survive longer, dealing damage to creatures or destroying artifacts. Think about the cards that can copy instants or sorceries as well to "steal" an enemy spell.Arms Dealer; Goblin Trashmaster; Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician; Siege-Gang Commander; Anger of the Gods; Blasphemous Act; Chain Reaction; Mogg Infestation; Vandalblast; Arcbond; Spine of Ish Sah; Unstable Obelisk; Smoke.
