RUG Midrange

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (0 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Use ramp and card advantage to stay ahead of your opponent. Finish the game out with either niv, Intet, or Sarkhan.

How to Play

All around fun deck to play. The amount of mana ramp/ card advantage keeps you ahead of the game while you threaten multiple ways to win. Hell, half the time you can just wolf run a coiling oracle.

If I had them they'd definitely make the cut. Sadly at the moment they're a bit outta my price range.

Don't worry. Everyone always mentions them. Usually before they even look at the synergy. Personally I'm not a fan of fanatic and would throw in more ramp or stall instead but this deck is good. If you need more stall or tempo recommend ground assault, assault strobe, fog bank or rancor. Still a good deck as-is though.

Yeah, your mana base should look more like . . .
4x Scalding Tarn
4x Misty Rainforest
3x Forest
1x Island
1x Mountain
2x Stomping Ground
3x Breeding Pool
2x Steam Vents
1x Hinterland Harbor
1x Sulfur Falls
1x Rootbound Crag

I believe harmonize is modern and a bit better than jaces ingenuity. Four mana instead of five

Yeah, but I really like the instant speed on Jace's Ingenuity... Hmm, I'll have to think about it.

Opted for Urban evolution. Thanks for the input though! I realized that I didn't have very many things that I needed to leave mana open for on my opponents turn so the sorcery speed card draw doesn't incur and penalties to my tempo.

Move one of the cyclonic rifts to your sideboard I think.

I really like this deck, I am going to do some playtesting with it on Cockatrice I'll let you know how it goes.

I played a lot of matches with this deck (Sorry for late reply I forgot about this completely) and I found that playing this deck in the current Modern format is risky because it is so slow, Modern is too fast for it. The version of the deck that I finally came up with that mirrors your deck the closest (Whilst also keeping it on budget as much as possible) Looks something like this: http://www.mtgvault.com/velor/decks/rug-midrange-modified/

I made sure to keep the deck as close to yours as possible, as I don't see the point of playtesting someones deck and putting in 4 tarmogoyfs and vendillion clique, and by going completely the opposite direction that the person wanted their deck to look like.

But yeah the deck is nice verse some matchups, but again the deck needs synergy between the cards, it needs a way to end the game reliably instead of relying on 5/5 beaters. :)

What about Prime Speaker Zegana? I think she would be better than Niv Mizzet, opportunity and jace's Ingenuity. Also, you might want to consider tossing in a couple copies of Leyline of Anticipation. Flashing in uncounterable fatties seems pretty damned good. I would also look into some counter spells. Plasm Capture might have a spot here.

If you want to go with the dragon theme, Cavern of Souls (i think) is also very very good.

Niv-Mizzet functions very well as board control and card advantage. Such a versatile presence is very advantageous to this deck. Zegana on the other hand more often than not just causes me to discard at endstep... All in all Niv-Mizzet > Zegana in my opinion.

Here world, let me show you that I can throw in the same deck 24 dual lands. Just joking, I like this deck. You should definitely use Prime Speaker Zegana instead of Jace's Ingenuity. Tharmogoyf would also be useful..... As it would be in all decks.

24 dual lands isnt that far fetched...but fear the blood moon!

I tried Zegana, but I just didn't like her vibes. She ended up being somewhat cumbersome most of the time. (I play this deck with my friends over Skype since we're all at different colleges)

Instead of Jace's Ingenuity, what about Concentrate?

Very good idea, but I opted for urban evolution for the extra mana ramp.
