Deck discussion for Esper Control (Vintage)

I think you should have more creatures, how else do you win?

Win with either an Inkwell Leviathan(which they can't stop), an infinite lock with Time Vault and Voltaic Key, or milling them with Jace. In vintage, creatures aren't as strong as in other formats unless you're running an oaths deck. They are still a big part of the game, but this deck is more focused on making sure your opponent doesn't win, then figuring out how to win later

Lotus Petal in a control deck?

Why the green splash for just two cards? Sure, you have Deathrite Shaman and Deed in the sideboard, but Deed would fuck you up as well and the Shaman is hardly enough to justify green. I would have expected Abrupt Decay instead of Nature's Claim and even then I think white or red would have been a better splash then green.

Inkwell Leviathan instead of Blight Colossus is a bit iffy in my book. Afraid of StP/PtE?

Since you are running the Time Vault/Voltaic Key combo with each piece just once I recommend Transmute Artifact.

Lotus Petal works just fine. I can see your argument against green it is for artifact/enchantment hate but I will swap with white which I have been contemplating. Inkwell Leviathan for two reasons. 1. Shroud like you said 2. Islandwalk will usually make it unblockable, if not, trample will get the job done. I also prefer Tinker to Transmute Artifact because it can help me fetch Inkwell Leviathan as well and I only need of them. Thanks for the input though!

I was thinking Transmute Artifact in addition to Tinker, not as a replacement.

Do you actually have this deck? Cool to see a vintage decklist though. Never realized (For some reason) how good bob is in vintage.

I have actually most of these but I started in 1994 and never stopped collecting and trading, so it's hard to tell how much money it really cost me. The funny thing is: When I started late in 1994 (Legends was already scarce, I started with Revised and Fallen Empires) I was stold that I got into the game a tad bit too late and have no hope of ever catching up because I missed the big hitters (which is an issue because I live in germany, the game was just introduced here, so no older cards circling around). Good that that never discouraged me^^ It was fun hunting them down and trading them forth and back. I can tell a story about each of my pieces of power.
From that decklist I am missing the Lotus, Time Walk, the Jaces and Thoughtsizes and one each of the Mana Drains and FoW. That's still a lot, though, but it's also fun to find replacements and tweak the deck so that it still works.

Same here. Every deck in my profile I actually own. When I started playing I had no idea how valuable some of the cards would become. Glad I never got rid of all those dual lands I had. Got 16 of each from collecting g them in middle school.....lol
