Deck Description

So I decided that I wanted to do a build that everybody had ruled out and that is seemingly useless. The build is centered around Aggressive Mining. The reaction you just had is the one I had when I first read the card, but revisiting it, it has potential, especially when paired with Karametra, God of Harvests.

Now for the Card Choices:

Enchantments:

- Aggressive Mining: The focal point of the deck. One land for two cards can be quite useful if we have enough mana to afford creatures and get a replacement land.

- Banishing Light: Allows us to take a more controlling approach while we look to either stabilize or hold off the more aggro decks so we can resolve a few more spells.

- Chained to the Rocks: The same job as Banishing Light. We only run two of here, due to the lack of mountains we have.

- Bow of Nylea: Not many opponents are going to want to block when all of your attacking creatures have deathtouch, especially when you can pump them up.

Instant:

- Devouring Light: Essentially the same job as Banishing Light, but allows for us to get the opponent to go all in on combat, just to blow up their creature, and convoke makes it extremely easy to cast if we have to continually dig with Aggressive Mining without Karametra on the field.

Planeswalker:

- Ajani. Mentor of Heroes: Mentor of Heroes is a boss. Two plus +1's either pumping creature(s) or providing a dig mechanism netting you a possible Karametra or Polukranos? I think yes. Only two here though, since he doesn't contribute a lot to our overall gameplan, but provides some nice pressure.

And finally the Creatures:

- Elvish Mystic and Sylvan Caryatid: Mana dorks at their finest. Provide some mana fixing, as well as makes the sac a land part of Aggressive Mining sting less.

- Courser of Kruphix: These are an automatic 4 of in so many decks that run green. Allows us to dig, gain life to pad our total, and has a nice enough but that we can afford to block early on.

- Genesis Hydra: Allows us to dig efficiently, and we'll get a free cast off of his ETB ability. Also provides a solid amount of pressure even if he comes down early.

- Karametra, God of Harvests- A two of, even though she's critical to the deck, since drawing a second one while one is in play is basically useless unless they are packing removal on the other side. She's not the best god, but she's the best god for our deck. She basically snubs out Aggressive Mining's biggest downfall, or allows us to quickly increase our mana if we just want to pump creatures out late game.

The mana base is pretty simple but still needs work. Sadly they didn't release a Naya tri-color land, and the RTR duals rotated out, so fetches are a no go.

I hope this deck takes off. Help with the sideboard is greatly appreciated, and any suggestions are welcome and wholeheartedly welcomed as well.

How to Play

I'm still working on the ins and outs of the deck, but so far it's going well.

Your first goal is to build up your forces like usual, maybe play a little control style here and there. Then if you can either find a Karametra or you have enough mana, you can play Aggressive Mining and start digging for either the finisher or Karametra.

Like I said, still a work in progress, but the deck hasn't disappointed me so far.

Here's what I would change:

-4 Kill Shot
+4 Devouring Light

Reason: More flexible removal and can stop indestructibles.

-2 Polukranos
+2 Genesis Hydra

Reason: Fits the theme of the deck of digging to win - and will essentially give you a free cast even if Hydra himself is countered... can't beat that! :D

After you get some play testing in, you should post your results - intrigued to see how it would do against other brews.

I really like that idea. I was looking for more removal to replace kill shot, so I'm pretty pumped for that! And I didn't even think of Genesis Hydra, fits perfectly. Thanks! I'll try to post results as soon as I get all the cards.
