It reduces the reliance on the shocklands. They can get very painful if you are only have nothing else available in the first few turns. You will never need to fetch more than a couple of each.

I've updated the deck to it's current spec.
It used to be Standard a long time ago and I have never gotten round to changing the land too much. It is a little temperamental at times with the Ancient Ziggurats occasionally preventing me casting some spells. I intend on fixing it, but like always, the land is the most expensive bit and I often end up spending it elsewhere.
Ascensions I feel slow the deck down a little too much. I could consider it for my SB against a heavy control deck, but I could imagine I would be disappointed to draw them when I really needed a burn spell most games.
