Deck Description

Is EDH too expensive for you? Wanna play a fun deck that doesn't cost a fortune? Then allow me to introduce you to....Poor Man's EDH. For under $75 you can own a cool, powerful, and fun EDH deck that isn't too limited. This time, we push the budget right to the limit for a five color deck built with a passion. It was difficult to create, and difficult to budget, but now you too can play five color EDH for a reasonable price. Enjoy!

How to Play

Far away, forgotten in time, sits a king on his throne. His subjects fulfill one purpose: Food. Atogatog rules his kingdom with an open mouth, creating a paradise for any creature he can eat. Now, the real king of the Planes grants permission to you to go out and gather more for him to eat! Five color decks are always harder to play, but that doesn't mean it's impossible, after all, how else could Atogatog rule? Early on, you spend heavy on green mana to ramp into lands, gathering all five colors is top priority for you. Cards like Expedition Map and Rampant Growth are perfect to gather what you need, and doing it quick. Mana is the most important thing to you, far beyond creatures or artifacts, so do your best to get as much as possible before making your next move. Chromatic Lantern is a card you want out early, because it gives you all the mana you need in lands and itself, but take heed: playing something so powerful so early might put a target on your back.

After you gather reasources, it's time to play your deck's core: Chanelings and atogs. Atogs are the brethren of the King, who must eat atogs to fuel his campaign for the planes, but sadly, there a few atogs in existence nowadays. So instead, the King has declared his land a safe haven for changelings. Changelings are cards that have every type at all time, granting you a tremendous power with a variety of decks. In the King's plan however, these creature are his first and last defense of his territory. Play as many changelings as possible, because they are the key to your success. Due to their natural ability, cards like Obelisk of Urd and Adaptive Automaton can power up your atogs, and changelings are everything...even atogs. With this advantage, you can pour out changelings and still perform the king's work in the name of atogs! The best part is that your changelings can defend you for as long as you need to call out the King himself. When the time is right, Atogatog arrives to the scene and eats everything in his path! For his abilities, the king eats atogs to grow stronger. This makes the King not only a powerful cannibal, but a force to be reckoned with! Due to changeling's nature, the king can eat them as well to devour the competition! To make things even better, the King has discovered a Rogue's Passage, which allows him to feast up and sneak behind enemy lines and give a nice greeting to the other players, allowing you to win in one shot with commander damage! It's good to be the King!

With five colors to pick from, you also get the biggest variety of extra spells to choose from to help keep the fight in your hands! Due to having all the colors, you have plenty of options, but some of your best are the charms! Charms are multi-colored spells that give you a choice of 3 things to choose from, and your choice becomes the power of the charm. Since you have all the colors, you can use any of the charms in your deck, but Atogatog prefers a few over the others. Dromar's, Rith's, and Treva's charm are the king's personal preference, each giving him a powerful selection for the best of occasions, but feel free to ask him about other charms to help out for more common situations you run into. But these charms aren't the only mutli-colored spells you can use. You can also use powerful Ultimatum spells! These spells are high costing sorceries with game changing effects. Each of the ultimatums present a powerful effect to the game, but only when used at the right time. All in all, when you put all of the King's tricks together, the only the thing left to do is eat what's put in front of you!
