Deck Description

I love pauper and I didn’t know what to make so I figured I’d make a mill deck that also recurs the spells to continue milling. Counter spells also help to control the field.

How to Play

Counter spell and mill your opponent(s).

Deck discussion for Pauper Blue Counter Mill

Sounds like cool budget deck ;)
Maybe you can discard Memory Lapse and have modern budget.

Maybe, but I’ll leave that to anyone who wants to play this deck in other formats. This deck is focused in Pauper because I love pauper, and it’s budget friendly. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I've played mill in some testgames against my benchmark decks and found it to be to slow in most cases. With enough control you can keep your opponents threats at bay, but you will still need some way to mill his library into his graveyard consistently. Personally I would rather use enchantments like [[Jace's Erasure]], [[Ghoulcaller's Bell]], [[urse of the Bloody Tome]], Millstone or Chronic Flooding.
[[Jace's Erasure]] works like a charm with carddraw like Brainstorm, which also allows you to control your draws and gain card advantage.

I might do [[Jace’s Erasure]] because it’s more consistent with the deck and run more draw spells. I like the counterspell+mill because it’s a pauper deck so the threat pool to mill is minimal. Thank you!

just a heads up- mystic sanctuary is currently banned in pauper. Maybe replace it with lonely sandbar or something so you have the option to cycle them out if you're flooding, or if you need some removal or something- quicksand or desert- honestly though- even though you don't run black- bojuka bog might be the card to run- as there are a few graveyard based decks out there- and you dont want to accidentally help them out. You Might want to run nihil spellbomb or something in the side as well for the same reason (and then bojuka bog can give you the black for the extra value if needed).

I’ll add Lonely Sandbar over Mystic Sanctuary and sideboard Relic of Progenitus for graveyard recursion. If I counterspell the recursion spells then it helps, but I might run more enchantments for mill. I don’t want to dip into multiple colors even though I know U/B is the powerful mill combo because I’m keeping it simple for a friend to get into Pauper. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm not sure your deck wants relic as it also removes your graveyard- and disables ur ability to recur some of your spells with archaeomancer and all of your creatures. Even without black and the extra value, I'd take nihil spellbomb over it.

And for the other spells in your side- you might want to add some type of removal/tempo pieces instead of more mill effects. The thought process there being- there probably isnt any instance where salvager of secrets is better than archeaomancer- so its not really a good card for the sideboard because you'll never swap it out- something like unsummon- or maybe lower costed counter magic or specific deck hoser cards are want you want to look for more. Maybe like whiplash trap for elves etc. Then you can counter those things later/get ur mill effect. Either way - good luck with it!

That makes sense.. I thought [Relic of Progenitus] only did my opponent’s graveyard but now that you’ve pointed it out then I might go for the spell bomb. Thanks again!

I got a lot of feedback to consider and my friend is a bit new to magic in general so I think the shell is good but I can still use your ideas to improve it towards the sideboard if they run into other threats and keep it competitive. I really appreciate the feedback!
