Deck Description

This deck is based on Sanguine Bond and Xathrid Necromancer I wanted to make a cheap and decent deck that could work in standard because I'm pretty new to MTG. The spells are to activate Heroics and can be changed to what you prefer.

How to Play

Sanguine bond is the backbone of this deck. It is a early aggression into Bubbling Cauldron - Festering Newt combo. You wanna look for at least one of either Bubbling Cauldron or Bogbrew Witch. Also if you Don't start with a diabolic or Sanguine Bond its a gamble but will usually be drawn.

Deck discussion for Mono Black Human

Great deck! My friend has got a similar one but with Xathrid (x3) and Dark Ritual (x4). Think about adding bigger creatures, you might not defeat opponent after early game with this deck.

Sanguine bond helps keeping him alive and yet stealing his opponents lifepoints with the bubbling cauldron. It might not be a one hit knockout but he can still win this way.

Dark ritual is Vintage, while this deck is standard. >.>

Right now you've got some nice heroic abilities you could trigger, but very few ways to trigger them (Your scourgemarks is it right now). Consider tossing in some other spells you can use to target those guys for additional triggers of their Heroic abilities. Boon of Erebos, Cutthroat Maneuver, Mark of the Vampire, Bestow creatures, or any similar cards would work great in this.

I could see Gift Of Orzhova being one hell of a good choice.

Interesting deck, I like it, might give it a go, also I would add Doom Blade some where in there, at least the sideboard. All in all, nice idea.
Check out my deck, could use some advice:

I think you have too many Cauldrons and Sanguine Bloods in there and it just feels a bit clunky. there are too many cards that have to be in place for your trick to go off. you will need three cards in place for the Bloods to really do some damage and that's not happening till turn 5 at the earliest. I like that base of the Human agro that you have started. I feel you would be better served to cut the Bloods and Cauldrons down to 1 or 2 at most, add in some death spells, eg doom blade, ultimate price, and maybe 1 more tutor or add some pump spells to give you a better chance to activate your heroic creatures. good luck

you should run a couple Gray Merchants. theyre not human, but theyre awesome.

The gray merchants would trigger sanguine bond and since this is mono black...

I will probably make another deck without the newt combo with grey merch

Corrupt works wonders with Sanguine bond, it is a great finisher or can take out a big gribblie that you otherwise may not be able to handle. You play plenty of swamps so could work for you.

VERY mana intensive though

It is indeed and with good reason. I have won plenty of games off the back of Corrupt. With you running plenty of land and sanguine bond. The moment you drop a corrupt should be game over.

the problem with this is that its actually cheaper to run the infinite Vizkopa Guildmage/ Sanguine Bond combo, and thats more reliable.

I would use Exquisite Blood to combo with Sanguine Bond.
If the opponent doesn't use any "destroy" or "counter" kind of spell, its K.O.

exquisite blood is not standard. Vizkopa Guildmage is though

Vizkopa does the same as sanguine bond, and it needs white mana.

main point being you are suggesting non standard cards for a standard deck.

Well, i don't know about that, i just said Exquisite Blood does K.O combo with Sanguine Bond.
That's it.

a combo that required 10 mana and a way to deal damage if you want it to go in one turn....its not very good, which is why when it WAS standard, the only decks that had it were pretty bad decks. in theory you could go off on turn 6, if you had a perfect draw.

I use that combo in my deck, and it works very well (not standart deck). with Tutor / Dark Ritual / Crypt Ghast
You can do damage with anything, such as Extort, and you get infinite 1 damage loop.

yes, its fine when you can use tutors, but i most formats you cant.

Drop Sanguine Blood... ...there are quite some enchantment removal now in standard & an opponent with any brains will keep about 3 of them in the sideboards...

Instead you should add some more spells that could target Agent & Soul, since you cannot' really take adventage of their "Heroic" ability as the deck is now...

Mark of the Vampire is total scum... ...drop it for something better... ...may be 2 Elixir of Immortality could be useful in the sideboard...

You should get some Hero's Downfall...

Good luck!..

Hero's Downfall is a must in a mono black deck. It would be rude not to for 1 extra mana to kill of a creature or planeswalker. And lets be honest... most players will have at least 1 planeswalker in their deck.

If not, then at least Pharika's Cure, since it goes with the deck.

I'd be greatful for any comments on my deck if anyone here gets a chance. Need some suggestions on improvements. Ta very muchly.

maybe swap out scourgemark for immortal servitude? That might help you get back in the late game if you overextend :)

I would run Liliana of the Dark Realms, since she is great for mono-black decks - you can get rid of Corrupt. Mark of the Vampire is great, but if you are running heroic, I would just have four Gift of Orzhova's and call it a day. Ordeal of Erebos, Thoughtseize, and Disciple of Phenax work awesome to steal cards from the enemy, since you are already using Heroic on Agent of the Fates, devotion will be insane (maybe a Erebos God can fit in), and Phenax is a Human Cleric.
