Deck Description

A fast Bloodghast deck. Standard. Really need help!!

A good combo: You have Bloodghast and Bloodthrone out. BotB are equipped to Bloodthrone. You sac Bloodghast to give Bloodthrone +2+2. And Bloodthrone get too the bonus from BotB. Now its 5/5. Play Verdant Catacoms. Bloodghast come back and you do the same again. Bloodthrone is now 9/9. Sac Verdant, search for a land, and Bloodghast come back. Do the same again. Bloodthrone is now 13/13!! Thats cool, and if you really will deal much damage, you shall use Viridian. So you counld sac that give Bloodthrone +2+2 and +2+2 from the BotB. So its 17/17. And when Virirdian is death search for a land, and now Bloodghast come back again. Sac it, and so Bloodthrone is 21/21!

Drop virulent swipe, and unnatural predation. Trample will make the blood throne vamp even more formidable. Also I would drop nantuko shade in favor of pawn of ulamog. You create more creatures to sac and increase the amount of pump.

Another card for end game with this set up is is Mitotic slime, but is optional.

Also, I would a harrow and one of something else in favor of Garruck for use of his trample ability, and he has the ramp you appear to desire.

Guul Draz Vampire >>> Vampire lacerator

Ahh, I see what you are trying to do with harrow, I would suggest viridian emissary instead. You can sack it and you get the land drop, and the ramp is equivalent.

i put in 2 garruk instead of 1 virulent and 1 preys vengenace. and i drop the last preys vengeance and virulent for 2 unnatural predation. ok??

Wow, I just looked at the mana curve on the deck, that is IMPRESSIVELY low!

Maybe sideboard a ratchet bomb or to attempt to counter 2nd turn kills by a kuldotha rebirth deck?

Maybe some creature removal, those are the only things I can really think of.

Grim Discovery and Memnites would work really well in this deck, if you can fit them in somewhere. The ability to pull another creature to sac as well as another land pull from the graveyard (replaying Catacombs) will allow you to sac your Bloodghast even more. For one Black and one Colorless, it won't throw off your mana curve.

Also maybe trade Quest for the Gravelord for the Jinxed Idol. With all the sacrificing you'll do, you'll be getting a 5/5 out fairly quickly. With Jinxed Idol, you have to pick which you sacrifice the creature to, between the Vampire or the Artifact.

For your sideboard, consider Smother and/or Feast of Blood for the possibility you're against artifacts (i.e. Memnite/Ornithoper decks).

This deck looks fun. I absolutely love Bloodghast!
If you want to see how to truly abuse it look at my vampire deck, and comment too please if you like it.

http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=118959

It has Bloodghast, Blade of the Bloodchief and Bloodthrone Vampire too but it also has a few other nifty tricks.
I've had my Bloodthrone Vampires bigger than 50/50 attacked with them and flinged them at my opponent.

Pawn of Ulamag for sure man. It would also help out with some mana ramping as well as provide more counters for your bloodthrone. Colorless mana is mana after all. I'd also stick with either Quag Vampires or Vampire Lacerator, but not both. You can pick whichever you want, but then I recomend replacing the ones you took out with Pawn of Ulamog.

Also, if you could check out and comment on my most recent deck, that would be awesome. I'm just looking for that one thing that maybe I missed or something. It's a casual deck, so it's not standard, but it is a lot of fun to play.

I actually tested this deck at a recent FNM just for fun. It's far too reliant on the Bloodthrone Vampire. If you manage to get the combo out once, you will not get it out again. Your opponents will save their creature control for that one creature. Without it, this deck is totally disabled. Recommend the Grim Discovery as previously suggested (tested with these, worked quite well), and I ran with Demon of Death's Gate, to fast sac the other vampires when I wasn't able to get a Bloodthrone out.

I also recommend using Harrow instead of Birds of Paradise. Rarely did I get a Birds to play, and when I did, they were pretty useless. Harrow gives you the mana ramp you're desiring, as well as additional landfall, which means more Bloodghast sacrificing.

Memnites were my suggestion previously because they would be a fast option as a blocker to the Lacerators, and not do damage do you. They could also be sacrificed and pulled back out with Grim Discovery, and played for free for another sacrifice immediately.

Unnatural Predation worked like a charm. No one saw a 15/15 coming, and when they did, they blocked with their most worthless creature.

Garruk was almost useless throughout the entire tournament, with a few times coming in useful using his untap ability. I also managed to get a few beasts out once, and used his trample ability once in a very long game. If you're using him solely for his trample ability, replace him with something else with a boost, like Groundswell, even if it doesn't give the trample you desire, it's a fast damage boost that will help. I also found that having a Groundswell at certain points would have saved my Bloodthrones from a Lightning Bolt. Alternatively, you could use Mirran Mettle to give the same desired effect, a boost, and/or shroud, thus saving your creature.

Overall, it was an okay deck. I won 3/6 rounds, and had a lot of fun with people trying to grasp how I was sacrificing the Bloodghast so many times. No one saw the combo coming, but as I said before, once they knew about it, they never let it happen again.

Demon of Death's Gate proved to be another unsuspecting surprise, especially on turn 2 (First hand: 2x Pulse Tracker, 1x Lacerator, 1x Demon of Death's Gate, x2 Swamp, 1x Forest).. I had another occasion with the Demon where I had Bloodthrone on the field, 3 other black creatures, and had Blade attached to her... so when I sacrificed the three creatures to Demon of Death's Gate, she became a 7/7 as well.

Keep at it, do a few tests with some of the suggestions floating out here. I didn't have the Jinxed Idols to play with, so that's why I threw in the Demons instead. Good luck!

A deck like this loves to have a couple copies of Mitotic Slime as finishers. Basically the Slime gives you a total of 7 more sacrifices for Bloodthrone Vampire, which means that, with BotB on there, thats a +28/+28. And for only 5 mana? Hells yes.

Maybe also consider using Viscera Seer? It's also a Vampire which means it can benefit from BotB, and can help set up your draws to makes your deck a lot more consistent. Consistency is the name of the game when it comes to Constructed, so I feel like that would help you a lot.

To add those I would probably drop the Pulse Trackers and Lacerators, they are good but they don't help you towards your ultimate win condition.

I agree with MrBarrelRoll. I was actually going to throw in Mitotic Slimes next since I just got a few myself. Best of luck with the tests.

Mitotic Slime is a nice creature to sac to your Bloodthrone. Makes your Bloodthrone a 14 - 14 with its ablilty. Then abuse your Bloodghast by sacrificing them and then top it off with Unnatural Predation.
Just a thought.

The Bloodghast sac/return is a pretty standard combo; I like your approach though, adding the Viridian Emissary. The real weak point is the Bloodthrone simply because it can be chump blocked, so Unnatural Predation is a great card for you to have. Anything else that gives trample would be nice, but definitely add the Mirran Mettle as you will still lose to a quick Condemn. I also agree with the viscera seer as a way to scry; it takes away from the Bloodthrone, but it will help you find her if you don't pull her first turn.

So basically, if you want to focus on Bloodthrone:
+Pawn of Ulamog - more stuff to sac
+Mirran Mettle - protection against Condemn/GftT

If you want a more consistent win once people start anticipating the bloodthrone:
+Viscera Seer
+Khalastria Highborn

I think you can afford to lose the Pulse Trackers, Lacerators, and maybe even Guul Draz. They don't serve much purpose except to chump block, so maybe sideboard a few Disfigure instead.

I have a friend who had a deck similar to this, but he splashed red instead of green for Lightning Bolt, Terminate and most importantly Fling.
21/21, eh? Swing. If they block, Fling. Hell, even if they don't block, Fling for epic win.

Overwhelming Stampede FTW! !! Makes all your sac targets just as big as your Bloodthrone and gives the whole team trample. Clearly in for Garruk. With mitotic slime would be a house.

If you really want to go full out sac, I'd go for some mortician beetles and put back in some Pawn of Ulamog. Guess I would go:

- 4 Pulse Tracker
- 2 Vampire Lacerator

+4 Mortician Beetle
+2 Pawn of Ulamog

This deck is true awesomness, and I can't think of a way to make it better. But, I must ask one thing of you. I would greatly appreciate some comments on my new deck. It is my first artifact deck, and I don't know if it would work, so I need some constructive criticism.

23 Lands is kind of overkill with everything costing 1-2 to play, you're going to empty your hand out on turn 3 or maybe even before that especially with birds and Garruk
I'd take out 3-5 and put in Memnites or some other alternative low casting costs creatures, beefs or kill spells (go for the throat or doom blades)
