Deck Description

[I will autocard soon]
I first builded this deck as a Zombies U/B dimir with some sacrifice output and cards like [card]Geralf's Messenger[/card], [card]Butcher Ghoul[/card], [card]Diregraf Captain[/card] , Grimgrin Corpse-Born and Dictate of Erebos. But I slowly drifted toward a more efficient setup with the blood artist, even if it meant to put aside the Zombie vocation.
I am convinced that this modern legal deck could win a lot games against very decent decks with the blood artist + killing wave combo.
But still, I am also quite sure that it could get better with some advices, that's why I need you guys.

How to Play

[I will autocard soon]
The core deck

Blood artist and Falkenrath Noble = sacrificial fuel.
1 dmg per creature × the number of blood artists in play is quite insane. And I don't even speak about the life gain.

Desecration Demon = flying rampage
the deck still need a "real bad ass" flying creature. Sometime to block serious treat, or to inflict good dmg. With its 4 converted mana cost I think it worth it

Phantasmal Image = jack of all trades
this card is probably the key that makes the deck possible, with its two converted mana cost, it can as well pop as a blood artist, a Falkenrath Noble or another Desecration Demon!

Diregraf Ghoul and Gravecrawler = cannon fodder
By diminishing the mana curve of the deck with their 1 converted cost, these guys easily enter the battlefield to fight and above else they give sacrificial power to the whole thing.

Killing Wave = touch down!
In perfect synergy with the blood artists, the Falkenrath nobles and the phantasmal images, this card can do tremendous amount of damage early game. Just cast the X with 2 or 3 mana and you have some blood artists out they will scream!

The support deck

Tragic Slip = creature removal

Remand = you lose one turn my friend

Spell pierce = quick counterspell

I would replace Diregraf Ghoul with Bloodsoaked Champion for the play from graveyard effect. As well Doomed Necromancer and Hell's Caretaker both have great synergy in this deck especially with Blood Artist.

The switch between Bloodsoaked Champion and de Diregraf does seem like a good idea. But instead of paying (black) for the ghoul, I would have to pay (black)(1) for each of the champions. The graveyard cast is great, but it would be harder to resurect de Gravecrawlers, because they need another zombie in play to come back (since the champions aren't zombies and ghouls are...). And I realised, after many playtests, that the cast from graveyard hability in this deck is not a win condition at all, so I could even change the gravecrawlers for someting else entirely, the only conditions to that change would be a better synergy and an extremely low casting cost.

As for the Doomed Necromancer and the Hell's caretaker, I agree that the synergy with the Blood Artist is nice, but the casting costs of both cards are high. With the Killing wave, only 4 mana can win me a game with 2 or 3 Artists or copies on the battlefield, while I think this would be more mana expensive with a Doomed Necro or a Hell's Caretaker.

Well how about cutting the Gravecrawlers for the Bloodsoaked champions and cut the Diregrafs for Bloodghasts? The Bloodghast certainly fit, surprised in myself that I didn't mention them in my first post.

Yeah bloodghast are really nice! But I really hesitate to switch between cards that cost (1) and cards that cost (2). You don't think it would slow the pace to much?

I truly don't especially since your playing blue for the Spell Pierce. Odds are even if you don't have it in had your opponents will play around that fact alone if you played a blue mana source on T1. The pros out way the cons in my opinion. The Bloodghasts coming into play with haste on T3 or T4 may just be that extra bit needed to win.

Well it seems I'll have to shark ebay to get a playset of Bloodghast soon, I'll probably keep the ghouls for some time but I will keep the bloodsoaked champions in mind. Thanks a lot for the advices!

I saw the card gitaxian probe in one of your deck, I'm thinking about adding a playset myself.

Oh ya Probe is such a good card. Knowing what your opponent has in hand can prove to be crucial in the way a match plays out.
