I mean no offence but you might want to read "http://www.mtgvault.com/muktol/decks/how-to-build-a-deck/".

Short version: There are way to many cards in this deck and to many 1-offs.

Greetings
Muktol

I have read and find your link somewhat useful but I started playing since the 1995 TBH. I guess a refresher it was. I have changed a few things now. So it should be better and got it down to 80 cards.

2 questions. What is wrong with 1-offs if they can cause critical hit to make you win the game in MTG?

Second question would be what would be the "to many cards in this deck"?

Greetings Muktol, you can refer to me as DARKSIDE!

Well the ideal deck size is lowest allowed number of cards: 60. All the cards in your deck should follow a certain strategy and there should be (nearly) no card that you don't want to draw at any phase of the game. For example "Sol Ring" or "Æther Vial" is a really strong card card when you can play it early. When you draw it turn 5+ you will very often think 'why did I draw this card NOW, 2 turns earlier it might have been usefull'. In my oppinion such cards can only be found by doing some testgames, be it against some other decks or against the same deck (mirrormatch).

The thing about 1-offs is that you normally won't draw them when you need them (without enough carddraw and/ or turors). The question is why should I use a strong card that fits my strategy only once and not 3-4 times? If there are some special reasons (budget, using only the cards you have available, and so on) then this has to be written down in the Deck Description.

Well the problem is budget and TBH I hate cards that are for one like 20$ It's really hard. Take a example at my red and black deck here:
http://www.mtgvault.com/darkside099/decks/black-red-chandra/
It's worth over 300$ now. It's just insane how much it all adds up. The sol ring is a all out mana booster in general and 60 cards? OK then how about you tell me WHAT TO REMOVE to help out. I am willing the take time to get your mentality cause I KNOW you good. I saw your deck designs. So lets make this budget and efficient. So how about so help on what to remove to make it 60 killer.

BTW The red and black deck works and sometimes does not.

Removing 20 cards..OK let's see what whe can do
1 Cemetery Reaper ...a lord but he might not have enough targets for his ability.
2 Diregraf Ghoul ...I would use "Slitherhead" or "Butcher Ghoul" instead.
1 Gempalm Polluter ...you don't want to draw this card at the beginning.
1-2 Dread Summons ...one of your main token producers but you don't want to draw it at the beginning and it also mills your cards. "Army of the Damned" would be another option.
2 Jace Beleren ...carddraw is OK but carddraw for both players is a dangerous thing.
1 Jace, Unraveler of Secrets ...to expensive to play.
2 Liliana of the Veil ...at the time you could play here you will be able to play most of your zombies. Playing a planeswalker or something that can harm your opponent. ALso having to discard a card yourself istn't that ideal for me.
1 Mana Vault ...one time ramp but only produces colorless mana. If you want Ramp use additional "Dark Ritual".
1 Skullclamp ...normally a very good carddraw engine. The problem is that most of your tokens will be 2/2 (without lords) so they won't die by equiping the clamp. There would be better equipmemnts/ enchantments to boost strength.
1 Endless Ranks of the Dead ...I have used this card in my own zombie decks but found that it was too slow for me.
2-3 Island

MUCH LOVE BROTHER/SISTER! I have done the changes and wish to have your IMO of this. I am also planning to have the budget werewolf deck you did! ONE QUESTION! I want to put 4 planeswalker instead of the vials that are too much for me. The rest I like the design. We are talking about the new planeswalker from shadows over Innistrad and the Innistrad one.

I really love the fact you are the first one to be a adviser to me. IRL I do not have one to help me design decks. You are MORE THAN WELCOMED to make my other decks strong! I am looking on advice in particular for my angel deck! The goal being creature damage and opponent lock down where he cannot attack me and such.

BTW Liliana is the new one. Just the database of this site does not have her but it's here:
http://www.mythicspoiler.com/emn/cards/lilianathelasthope.html
that is the one I want 2 of!

If you want to replace Vial with a planeswalker I would either choose 1-3 "Garruk, Caller of Beasts" or "Garruk Wildspeaker", "Arlinn Kord " could also be an option if you want to stick with the werewolf theme. But I would up the number of lands by 2-3 to compensate the slower play.
I will take a look at them if I get some spare time. Though I can't make any promises as I'm no specialist on kitchentable/ legacy decks. I have started with 8th Edition and now many cards since then. Earlier sets where never that interesting to me because it was difficult to get my hands on them.

Yes I was thinking about Arlinn actually and Garruk for 1 green and 3 colorless interests me.

Yes thank you for your time when you can of looking at my other decks to improve upon.

OK so you are more expert on modern/standard. That's good cause I was thinking of actually making the zombie deck into modern/standard except for the Sol Ring of course and some other minor cards.

I am also thinking of upgrading my angel deck with the new cards coming out in the new series of those 2 angels that meld.
