Deck Description

Modern, mono B devotion, so far so good from testing on Cockatrice, to playing IRL, this deck has been a complete success, of 10 rounds, I've lost one game. It's surprisingly effective. OH! and I broke Nykthos. Taps for 6-10+ mana consistently around turn 4 or 5.
Any suggestions, changes, comments are welcome and appreciated thanks guys :)

How to Play

Okay this deck is very tempo based as well as aggressive, so you want to play smart but keep the pressure on constantly. so turn 1 gravecrawler turn 2 either bloodghast or save for removal. turn 3 Geralf's messenger turn 4 Phyrexian Obliterator + Nykthos activation into another Geralf's Messenger. (personal Preference) or you can play a gray merchant turn 5 to stabilize.

Deck discussion for Dark Obsession

It looks like a mighty fine deck - I don't see why you've listed it as unloved really :)

Great deck! I'm very jealous that you have some of these cards LOL.

I like how this deck seems like it would play and curve out. You obviously know what you are doing. I am absolutely a mono-black player at heart and the crown jewel known as Phyrexian Obliterator has alluded me over the years due to lack of funds. This really seems like a well thought out deck.

The only thing I can think of that might help (and honestly you don't need to change a thing) is the following:

1. Have you considered a "mana dump" of some kind for late game? Seems like with the Shrine and just games that run long it would be nice to have something to load up like "Consume Spirit" or something along those lines.

2. Have you considered some sweepers like "Black Sun's Zenith" or "Mutilate?" I only consider this in your deck because your creatures are so resilient. Therefore you can afford to sweep and then your guys come back but the opponent will most likely be restarting.

Another card you might playtest is the difference between "Phyrexian Arena" and "Underworld Connections." You get the same black devotion but Underworld is optional and won't kill you if you are behind in life.

Hey man love the build - I recently made a version myself http://www.mtgvault.com/buzzgsc/decks/mono-black-devotion-to-modern/

A few things I would say you need to include looking at both the meta-game and potential bad match-ups:
-Deathrite Shaman - Absolute bomb of a card that takes out decks like Living End, Instant Reanimator, etc. The addition of a play set plus a set of Verdant Catacombs and perhaps a couple of Overgrown Tombs to make the most of Deathrite would be great for your build.
-I agree with Zombie23 - A couple of board sweeps would be ideal, as well as a mana dump such as Exsanguinate or even Profane Command. I would also say that decks like Splinter Twin could be a problem, so a card like Sudden Spoiling might help out :)

I have a deck very similar to yours but I don't play demigods. I like your build. The one thing I have to say about phyrexian arena vs underworld connect is the tempo lost that underworld connections takes from you. With gray merchant you are almost NEVER behind in life and if you are you have already lost. Phyrexian arena is the BEST option. I splashed Red in my build to offer better 2 mana kill options. Like terminate which is the best. I also use deathrite shaman which gives you that turn 3 obliterator or turn 4 merchant if needed.

Take a look at my build.
