Deck Description

I played this deck in a Legacy tournament last night and came 2nd :D

After siding in my only Ezuri against the one opponent (he was playing Dredge) and playing him, I attacked with 2 13/13 trampling Llanowars :) Gotta love Heritage Druid in a elf token deck. Now I need to get more Ezuri and find a way to work them into the deck :?

Against another opponent (who was playing Reanimater) I gained over 2000 life before he got an Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite out. I couldn't attack because of the Blazing Archon and then I couldn't play anymore spells because of Iona, Shield of Emeria, so I just doubled my token creatures every turn with Rhys to gain alot of life thanks to Essence Warden :p I won that due to having too much life for him to take down and I had more cards in library than him.

Sideboard needs some work, I almost never sided last night. I'm thinking of replacing Fog with Dismember.

Before anyone points out the 16 lands being too little in number, I know and the deck works just fine with this number. I do have Llanowar, Harbinger and Heritage that supply me with mana.

*EDIT* (03 Nov 2011)
I've yet to try out these modifications:
Main: +2 Ezuri, Renegade Leader, -2 Parallel Evolution
SB: +3Tormod's Crypt, +2 Parallel Evolution, -4 Wren's Run Vanquisher, -1 Ezuri, Renegade Leader

Deck discussion for Elvish Tokens

Nice build and congrats on 2nd. Have you ever thought about Oran-Rief, the Vastwood? Also maybe 1 Parallel Lives in place of 1 Parallel Evolution could be fun.

Thanks. I have considered Oran-Rief, just personally don't like it. I don't have any Parrallel Lives (or Doubling Season for that matter) and I'm happy with the way the deck is already. I may try work in Dismember into my sideboard for Iona :|

I'd sideoboard Vexing Susher.

Instead of 16 forests, you should run 4 Wirewood Lodge, and maybe drop another four forest for fetch lands. You really don't need mana in an elf deck, they generally produce plenty of it on their own.

What about Wellwisher, Timberwtach Elf, Seeker or Skybreak, etc? There are plenty of Elves you could be using in legacy that I think you would benefit quite a bit from.

Another really cool thing you can do with Elf decks are running Archdruid, Preist of Titania, and making room for four copies of Genesis wave. Within 4 turns, provided you get the right opening hand, you can flip practically your entire library for some really devastating effects.

All the cards you've suggested are good cards, but a lot of them seem to not fit in with the theme of my deck. Vexing Shusher is a goblin and if I wanted that ability I'd run my Guttural Response that I already have. Also I'm accustomed to playing against counter with this deck and I can work around counters.

The cards that untap creatures aren't needed in this deck. Especially Wirewood Lodge as it only adds colourless. I need the {G} early game.

This is a swarm deck, so Seeker of Skybreak isn't really needed. If I need that ability, I'd rather use Ezuri, Renegade Leader as he gives trample too. I'm hopefully getting more of him soon :)

I haven't seen a need for Wellwisher. Essence Warden's life gain is more to buy time than anything else and it's a 1 drop where Wellwisher costs 2.

Genesis Wave's downside is a bit too much of a problem for me and this is a token production deck, I don't really need to search more than I already do for my creatures. I also don't need to cheat them in :p

why not use Priest of Titania or Elvish Archdruid in stead of Heritage Druid? they have the same effect without haveing to tap the elves and 2 more Squall Line and a little more life gain such as well wisher would be good, remmember if you are on 21 life, they are on 20 and you Squall Line for 20 you win on one life.

There's a few reasons. Firstly at the time of building the original version of this I only had access to Heritage Druid and Essence Warden. Secondly their abilities are unaffected by summoning sickness, this increases the speed of the deck. Thirdly they only cost 1 mana each, thus further assisting with the speed of the deck.

Squall Line isn't the main win condition, it's more for that final push and / or get rid of irritating flying creatures.

why not use overrun? with all that tokens running around, its a must... Thanks for the input, it helps me with my elf deck. thanks.........

Ezuri works A LOT better than Overrun in this deck as I can activate his built in "Overrun" multiple times.
As for Asceticism, due to the way I play the deck, I don't need to have global protection :p

Just a question, what are you guys afraid of that you need hexproof?

0
Posted 13 November 2011 at 09:38

There's a few decks that are nuts with doubling season. Try something with Planeswalkers, Eldrazi Spawn, Proliferation, Arcbound, and/or Saporolings and Spore Counters.

Hexproof isn't needed. With all of the tokens that will be running around, it doesn't matter if a single 1/1 dies. Board wipes will kill anyway, and that is all that is really important.

might I suggest a parallel lives just to get more tokens out, a doubling season might be more effective because of your bramblewood paragon.

could you please suggest what my friend could do with his elf deck. he really needs to do some work on it.

here it is: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=264534

thank you!

Although they're good in token decks, those enchantments are not needed in this deck as I produce enough tokens without them. Also their mana cost is too high and would disrupt the mana curve I'm aiming for.

is an awesome card that's sitting one of my other decks.

I find with the swarming this deck does, I don't need to make more for myself with the Mercy Killing nor do I need to kill an opponent's creature as I often outnumber his creatures.

Well spoken, Ded - After looking at this gemstone, I got a really sickening feeling in my gut... That I've wasted so much money on 4 x "Doubling Season" ... argh. This is f*cking awesome !

Doubling Season is an awesome card that works wonders in the slower token production decks. This deck runs out of steam long before Doubling Season can be of any use. I'd actually like to get myself a set of Doubling Season for a Thalid / Saproling deck I'm working on.

I like those cards. Lodge more than Pride. Pride, though awesome with the amount of elves I create, doesn't quite fit (so I feel). The Lodge to untap Rhys is awesome :p

What would you do against a global burn effect, like pyroclasm or such? Also what about legacy RDW? I myself have an elf deck and I've never been even near to win RDW. My deck is a lot slower yes, but when I look at this deck, you cant get tokens out for third turn, not at least enough of them. And what about echoing truth? It kills the whole idea without some shroud...

0

The main reason I've stopped playing this deck (for now) is because of the large amount of mass removal that's at least in sideboard of the people I play against. But this decks speed helps it go toe to toe with other fast decks, just depends on what elves come out first and how I play the deck. With a decent hand, I've had about 15 tokens and a 'Lord' out on turn 3 (Heritage Druid is awesome :p )

Something I haven't seen mentioned, and something that works awesome with Heritage Druid, is Nettle Sentinels. With an elf spell coming in each turn to untap them you can have a lot of fun. Glimpse of Nature can also help by drawing a card whenever you play a creature, and keeping your hand full of green spells to play and untap your sentinels all over again.

Keep in mind this is ELF TOKENS not ELF STORM

I've tried the Nettles in this deck before, but I didn't like it. I'd much rather use newly created tokens for mana with Heritage. I often empty my hand by turn 4 or 5.

A sideboard option could be Mercy Killing. Then you can finish off the fatties in reanimator (exempt Iona). Also, why no warcaller?

Depends on what I need at the time. Normally a Heritage Druid, but I also go for Essence Warden, Rhys or Ezuri, but I may also go for Bramblewood Paragon or Imperious Perfect if I need a "Lord". I've also fetched Gilt-Leaf Ambush for the start of token production.
