The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

I wad reading up on artifact creatures that cost 2 or less that can possibly be abused with Heartless Summoning when I came up for the combo in this deck. The deck still needs a lot of work as I just through the rest of it together to help search for the combo pieces.

Main Combo:
Play one Heartless Summoning.
Play one Myr Retriever (it'll die and you can return an artifact).
Play a second Myr Retriever to return the first to your hand.
Replay the first Myr Retriever to return the second.
Repeat the play and return cycle.
Play a Grapeshot.
Win

The Transmute cards can search for any piece of the main combo as all the pieces cost 2 each. And they double as usable cards. Shred Memory can remove cards from a grave, slowing down grave based decks, Muddle the Mixture can counter counters that mite mess with the main combo and Dimir Infiltrator + Curiosity = lots pf card drawing.

Idealy you should Gitaxian Probe before storming with the main combo.

Deck discussion for Heartless Storm (Modern)

Bitter ordeal might be a better kill.

You are correct. The reason I chose the Grapeshot option is I already have them. I don't have any Bitter Ordeals :( I'm also trying to keep budget friendly (for now).

A playset of bitter ordeal is less than $5, very budget friendly.

You are rite, Bitter Ordeal is a better option and it's not $5, it's $0.99. There's a few problems though. Channel Fireball (where I order cards from) is out of stock and no one in my group has any :(

I said a playset is under $5, which means as every copy is $0.99 it's under $5.

And just order from another place? I find Channelfireball to be a bit high on their prices often anyway.

Sorry, I misread your comment (must stop speed reading *slaps self*).

The problem with orders is I live in South Africa and not many places deliver to SA :(
Additionally I don't order myself, so i can't choose what store / website the cards are ordered from.

what about Beseech the Queen in stead of Diabolic Tutor

0

Demonic Tutor is without a doubt the best tutor, So those should be used over Diabolic or BTQ.

A Legacy version would run quite a different build. It'd keep the core of Heartless + Retreivers + tutor cards, but Tendrils of Agony and / or Bitter Ordeal would be my storm cards of choice. I'd also add in the 'free' counter spells (Force of Will, etc) to counter spells that'd stop the storm.

Beseech the Queen would be good for the Modern version without this much Transmute cards, Demonic Tutor is one of the best (there are others that are better depending on the deck they're in).

I think with some money, and time, this could be made into a great Modern deck.
Slaughter Games would be an intant fold though...

Money's always a problem for me. If I where rich, I'd probably not be building budget decks at all.
As for Slaughter Games, it's a sorcery that costs 4 and it's a sorcery, there's also Gitaxian Probe to see if there's cards that can mess with the combo and Muddle the mixture to counter any such interuptions. The card that is more scary than Slaughter Games is Surgical Extraction.

I'd be interested to see your take on this as a modern deck. Could it compete with current UR storm decks if this wasn't budget.
I personally don't think even with money in this deck that it would be able to go off consistently turn 3.

0
Posted 30 November 2012 at 00:10

I designed it for a consistant turn 3 :)
It does, however, fall to the same things 'traditional' storm decks fall to :( But that's the risk of running a storm deck :p

That is a damn ugly combo Ded, just gross is you ask me. Very nice. The only thing I'd do is use Demonic Tutors over the Diabolic Tutors.

I had contemplated Fabricate, but with everything costing 2, the multiple Transmute cards act just like Fabricate, but also alow me to fetch non artifact cards like Heartless Summoning and Grapeshot :p

0

There are alot of modern decks running a grapeshot or other DD win con. I dont know the name but I would put in the card that gives you a goblin for storm that give 1 for each spell played. I use a RWU modern that pretty much shuts down DD after first game. Hope this helps.

Empty the Warrens is the name of it

0

There's a whole host of storm cards that'd work awesomly, I'm trying to get a set of Bitter Ordeal so I can kick the red out and make this a pure UB deck.

Empty the Warrens wasn't chosen as Heatless Summoning would kill the goblins :(

Most of these cards are very indiviualy are very good and some are good combos. THe fact that you have three different colors is a little worring as well but its not a bad deck.

0

3 colours isn't so bad, there's a lot of lands that can help with the mana fixing, I was just trying to keep this deck free of those expensive ($) lands. Maybe I should add a set of Evolving Wilds?

Arcbound Crusher might be another interesting piece if you can't get the Heartless/grapeshot for whatever reason. Swinging for infinite trample feel so good.

0

An alternate win con would be a good idea, only problem I see with Arcbound Crusher is he only has madular 1, ie Heartless will kill him before he can have more +1/+1's put on him :/

i dont think u need diabolic tutor because you already have 12 transmute tutors which is good enough
i also think u should take out curiosity and swap it out for a playset of think twice because the only way to draw with think twice is to already have dimir infiltartor in your hand and if it is in your hand u would more likely use it for its transmute ability when think twice is just tap 2 draw, simple as that

I like to put both Grapeshot and Scrapyard Salvo in the deck in case the combo fizzles. I made a similar deck:

Scrapyard Salvo wont be very good. If the combo works, you won't have many artifacts in the graveyard.

I for one would be deeply excited to see Modern become a friendly place for combos once again. Put a shitload of money into fetch lands, run it at a tourney and report back to us. You may be the progenitor of a new archetype.
