Deck Description

Mill(er) Lite: mono blue mill with just a bit of a twist to shave off a few calories

I'm trying for two bits of innovation here:

Kozilke's Command is ungodly powerful on its own, but has a relatively unique boost in a mill deck. It's mainboarded grave hate if you need that (which you have better access to since you're milling), it's removal in an otherwise (essentially) mono blue deck if you need that, it generates blockers to stall for time if you need that, it stores mana if you need that, and it's a cantrip that lets you scry to what you need, which is absolutely delightful in a deck that likes fetch lands. The only problem, of course, is you need the double CC to play it, but that's mitigated in a modern classical mill build already by Field of Ruin (which helps all over the place), so all I had to do was find a little more synergy and, PRESTO, Command can be run in a mill deck. Enter Ipnu Rivulet. It's absolutely not the best land ever printed, but it's got a pretty unique place in this build. It does C or U, so it doesn't slow you down but also allows for Command, and it doubles as a mill card when you don't need it anymore, as it's essentially a spell that says 'pay U1: opponent mills 4'. That's not great by any means, but it's absolutely better than nothing by a wide margin, especially since it's still a land so it trips your crabs. Suddenly, topdecking it with 2 crabs in play means opponent gets milled for 10 cards for only 2 mana (and the land drop slot), making it a pseudo-good mill card.

Remand works on a very old idea, the pseudo-Time Walk on turn 2. I wanted to try it here because it perfectly compliments the deck's plan after turn 1, which is basically leave the mana up for a mill card after you drop a crab turn 1. So, you can either cash that mana in at the end of opponent's turn for a mill card, or grab a 'free' turn off of Remand, that cantrips and gives you another land drop off the crab you hopefully have in play. Or, put another way, with a crab in play, Remand basically says 'when you play this, opponent mills 3' on top of everything else it does, since the game will go an extra turn cycle. It's not a terrible topdeck either, as you cantrip off of it even if you don't stop opponent completely for the turn, and because this deck will have plenty of mana available so once you've got 3 lands up you can use 1 to mill and save 2 for Remand until you don't need it anymore. That's the theory anyway.

The rest is your standard mill build, hopefully kicked up a notch by a couple innovative tweaks.

Thoughts appreciated.
