Urza's Anvil: artifacts a la Urza, with a modern twist.
Urza speaks for himself, and absolutely cleans up in a build like this. The rest of the build either synergizes with Urza/artifacts in general, shuts things down, or both. Win conditions are many, see the synergy guide below:
Urza- turns your artifacts into lands, and those lands cast stuff from the top of the deck. He also spawns a win condition and is immune to about half of popular modern removal and inconvenient to the rest of it.
Urza's Saga: spawns win conditions, fetches tech pieces. In this build, can fetch removal (Capsule), mana fixing/material (Chromatics), all the fun of Underworld Cookbook, grave hate (Spellbomb).
Ensnaring Bridge: shuts down attackers at your whim, but can still let you swing with your 1/1's from Thopter Foundry.
Chromatic Star/Sphere: cheap, fast, fixes mana, replaces itself, and magnificent mana dorks for Urza, fetchable with Saga.
Academy Ruins: recylces your tasty artifacts, recycles Executioner's Capsule, prevents decking out.
Executioner's Capsule: combos with Academy Ruins, cheap removal, fetchable, hates on Merktide.
Mystic Forge: eats through your deck, giving max material on its own and being damn-near unparalleled when paired with Urza, as you cast artifacts from the top of your deck, then use them for more mana (via Urza) to cast more artifacts from the top of your deck. Rinse and repeat for unbelievable material gain. The Chromatics in particular make this maneuver deadly, and the overall high 1-drop count combo perfectly with Forge.
Oni-Cult Anvil: combos with damn near everything, protects you, gains you life, drains opponent, sac outlet that combos with Chromatic Star, Spellbomb, Capsule, like every card in the build.
Cookbook: perfect synergy with Ovalchase Daredevil, gains you life, synergy with Ensnaring Bridge for quick shutdowns if necessary, ups the artifact count for your big fatty win conditions.
Thopter/Sword: the infamous combo that keeps you alive and generates win conditions all while you're protected by Ensnaring Bridge. Thopter also works well with Anvil, Chromatic Star, Capsule, Cookbook, etc.
