Deck Description

Works great, I've only lost twice with this out of 20+ matches. Constant Board sweeping and Jace ftw. Iona is another win condition, but most of the time it's Jace after i've used Martial Coup. I recently added Leyline of Sanctity to protect Jace from direct damage and myself from Valakut decks. Also swapped out See Beyond for Foresee.
Against RDW i swap cancel for flashfreeze and deprive for redirect. Leyline helps too, i usually swap out two O-Rings.

Deck discussion for Jace Control

Wow, I love this deck, I wouldn't mind building something very similar. I would have to modify it a little cause I only have 2 Mind Sculptors. What did you have to pay for all the other cards not including Jace?

I managed to buy one Jace when the set released for $60, the box of boosters i bought was nice enough to have two in it and the 4th one i traded a Sorin Markov for. Thank god my friend has an unfathomable amount of hatred for blue, or trading for that would have sucked. Iona i got in a random booster, Leyline, i got one during the prerelease tournament, everything else i kept my eyes open for deals at my local store and bought them when mispriced or traded for them of other people. The deck is killer. I've been beaten down several times within range of being killed by a 1/1, but then i cast a board sweep and maintain control. It's absolutely brutal. If you play an aggro deck of insane speed, mulligan until you have a board sweeper in your first hand. Small creatures add up quick these days.

Rated 5.83? Seriously? I've beat RDW, Jund, Valakut, Bant, Vampires, Allies, and just about every other type 2 deck with this... Are you guys not grasping the concept or what?

By the way thanks for your help with my mill deck I just reposted it and have been modifying it, if you could please check it out and see what you think, thanks, as far as your rating goes I think people underestimate control decks until they play them.

everyone grasps the concept dude, its just not that original. there a hundreds if not thousands of deck almost exactly like this on this site alone. you werent the first person to think of using jace the mind sculptor in a blue and white control deck.

Wow, I missed this deck. I'm gonna' filter through all your decks Drummer & rate 'em. Yeah, I don't know why b*tches be hatin', this sh*t is powerful what you have here. Plus the Sideboard helps on match 2 if ya' have to. I'm puttin' this control beast @ 9.8 stars personally. Again, good job man.

Once upon a time a nubcake named Aaboy66 went out to his local comic store to try out a new game named Magic: The Gathering. After 5 seconds of trying to find the coolest looking pre-constructed deck, he decided to chose a deck called Future Sight: Fate Blaster. The first spell he ever played in the game was a spell called Foresee, which Aaboy66 apparently pissed himself at the awesomeness of the card. True story. Onto the deck, I really don't see anything I can say to help, after all, this deck and mine are very similar. The only spell I just don't understand is why you chose Deprive over Mana Leak. Maybe this was before m11, so you might wanna change that. But then again, I am a huge troll of cards like Daze and Force of Will, so of course I'm not going to like Deprive. Also, this is more a personal question but, why do so many people use the lands from Unhinged? They cost $8 a piece, and they really just don't look that great. But, that's just me. Nice deck regardless.

only 2 DoJ? Oh, and you should look at a list of CawBlade, it's really good and it's not that hard to morph your deck into (stoneforge mystic + Sword of Feast and Famine is bonkers).

I like the deck, but I realllllly think you should find a spot for Gideon.
Once you stabilize with him and jace on the board, game over. He's just so good. lol.

Btw, congrats on top decks. (:

Should replace Cancel with Stoic Rebuttal for that small chance of 3 Chalices.. It's just a better card.

Seems kinda ridiculous to take out a card that every turn can give you another land, untapped.

I wouldn't mind playing a match or 2 against this with my Elfdrazi Trap deck.

You're mildly wrong on one thing. In a way, Deprive picking up Halimar, you lose a turn on land, and 2 turns worth of the mana. It does have it's uses though. On a side note though, the above comment stating that Stoic Stoic Rebuttal was better than Cancel is very true. Stoic is basically Cancel, except that if you do have multiple chalices out, it becomes counterspell

i'm pretty new to magic, so i might be missing something, but why cancel and deprive instead of mana leak, rune snag, or counterspell. also i suggest 4 path to exile and 2 journey to nowhere, get rid of the oblivion rings

0

One key reason why Oblivion Ring is better than Journey, is it's ability to hit any nonland permanent, aka planeswaklers.

Top of Front page, good job. Did you know that if 2 jaces are on the battlefield at the same time, they both die? You might want to cut one jace.

Rotate Martial For Phyrexian Rebirth and O Ring for Journey or Arrest (Hooray arrested blightsteels!)

Awesome looking deck. Looks like it drags out to a snails pace and goes for win in the slowest possible ways. That's my favorite part of control decks :D teh sufferin'!

Oh and swing by my page and rate my decks!

0

Didn't notice the paths, so swap o ring for Journey and path for Divine Offering or Arrest. depending on situation.

0

Disagree. I'd take the O Ring over Arrest any day! Unlike Arrest, it can hit an Emrakul. Also unlike Arrest, it stops cards like Elvish Archdruid from still providing a bonus. However, the biggest reason is that unlike Journey and Arrest, it can also remove artifacts, enchantments, and of course planeswalkers like Jace! O Ring is incredibly solid.

1
Posted 06 March 2011 at 21:51

@ Edna - Oblivion Ring can't target Emrakul. Unless you have a colorless Oblivion Ring lol

Looks pretty solid overall. However, if you're playing extended, why not use the filter land from Shadowmoor? It would help the deck a bit more with color fixing. Also, one of the best cards to play in extended right now is Cryptic Command. It totally trumps Deprive by far. Even Mana Leak typically does.

For the Sideboard, I would suggest 4 Kitchen Finks. They are amazing against any aggro deck and even survive your own wrath effects while bringing additional life as well. Overall it looks pretty good, though.:)

Wow... So, I just looked back to the comments which I'm wondering if anyone else really has so much. Drumhead will probably be quite surprised to see this deck that is over half a year old coming randomly back into the Top Decks slot and shooting off with comments. Funny how that works. Sorry if you're not bothering with this deck much anymore and my comments are all basically just wasting your time. I didn't realize that this was just an old format deck and was commenting on it, along with the rest of the crowd I guess. haha.

I kind of suspected as such when he kept talking about how it was T2, with Paths and Martial Coup, and Oblivion Ring, but I just let it go, lol.

It's all good... I've been on a break from magic for over four months... Right now i'm looking to trade/sell a good majority of my collection (mostly newer stuff) and start collecting what i want (mostly black cards from ages passed) and the other oldies. I more interested in Legacy and Vintage now.
I realized i was spending a fortune on cards in standard just to have them rotate out later and all my cards i've collected up to this point are not usable for the most common format, so i said eff that and now i'm focusing on playing with whatever i want for casual and/or Legacy and Vintage.

this deck does seem pretty good, however, I feel U/B control is better. Seems more synergistic. If you want to make the deck standard. consider, swapping journey to nowhere for Oblivion ring; also, Phyrexian Rebirth for marial coup, or just add 2 more day of judgements. Add 2 mana leaks instead of path to exile or oust, condemn, etc. I also recommend preordain over foresee, it's an amazing card. Good luck, and hope that helps.
