Deck Description

This is part four of a four-part deck series centering on the four horsemen. I present to you: Death.

Thanks so much for all the love with these decks! They have been a ton of fun to build, and I hope they have inspired some new deck ideas for all of you.

Let me know in the comments which was your favorite and if you'd enjoy another series like these!

How to Play

Putrid, cruel, and merciless, Death is quite the sadist. This horseman doesn't care if it is your creatures or your opponents; he wants them all dead.

So many options in this deck to win. Burn them by sacrificing creatures and bleeding them dry with blood artist. Make them sacrifice obscene amounts of creatures, leaving a cleared road for phyrexian obliterator and desecration demon. Pick them to death with a horde of flying faeries. Get your devotion up and drop gray merchant for massive life swings.

(Side note: Neat trick with reanimate. Don't play anything after your first draw, then discard a big creature. Turn 2, drop a land and reanimate it!)

If they aren't running a creature heavy deck, switch out with some of the sideboard to run a permanent sac deck.

Deck discussion for The 4 Horsemen #4: Death

With both Erebos and gray merchant, you want phyrexian arena over sign in blood. It helps turn on devotion, and you don't have any other 3 drops so it fits

Also hunted horror may have too steep of a draw-back for this deck, perhaps just more removal so bitterblossom and arena can take iver

I agree with Trollking, in any other situation Hunted Horror is great but this deck is mono-black...

Fair enough, team. We'll phase him out, and troll you are spot on with the using arena with gray. Thanks for the input, guys.

I love the four horsemen! Could you make another series? And I liked famine the most. :)

This kinda made me sad. I thought this was the actual deck Four Horseman... :(

Would definitely throw a fourth dark ritual on the mainboard, and possibly crypt ghasts as well, speed can make games for you and break games for others fighting you, otherwise I really like the look of this deck, props to you sir

I love the deck series. Might I suggest doing the 7 Deadly Sins next?

I like the idea behind the series, but this one is a let down for me. Death is obviously the last Horseman to show up, but it's usually a culmination of it's three predecessor's and too me it almost seems like there isn't enough death in the deck. I understand it's magic and you make each deck to win, but with a theme deck like this I was looking more for flavor and not the competitive part to it.

Innocent Blood would fit a lot better in a War themed deck to me.

Still, props for doing all four man. I'm sure it took a ton of time of thinking for ya to put them together.

I enjoyed looking at all 4 decks. I suggest maybe Black Market, Exquisite Blood, or Sanguine Bond.

get rid of both erebos mainboard and place lilianas mainboard instead.

Why is there a need to make such cocky suggestions as if the cards weren't thought out? Erebos is excellent in this deck as an extra two card draw engines, easily provides another body with the high devotion count in the cc of the cards, and it resists Damnation's field destruction. Field wipe is great in this deck, especially with Bitterblossom and Volrath's. Sure it's slower, but it would be a great multiplayer design.

Erebos is good, you have several passive ways to turn it on.
I like Lilliana in the main WITH Erebos. Perhaps over reanimate? Since Erebos bitterblossom and arena, all take life, removing one more thing that takes life could be good.

For a deck based around death, I see a surprisingly little amount of it....
Yeah, I do see a fair bit, but I've designed decks with a lot more of it.

If it is death, the cards you play should make sure everything dies, or lose life e.g. Soulcage Fiend + Demonlord of Ashmouth combo, with Blood Artist, it is pretty good

This is a helluva mean deck. Seriously, I'd make this, but I don't play vintage and I can't afford it.
