Proliferate - How will you use it?
The Scars of Mirrodin pre-release is running this weekend, so we'll start seeing those cards in our casual games! *excited*
I'd like to discuss what I think will be the most potent new ability introduced by this set -- Proliferate! I absolutely love this ability! For better or for worse, it increases the effect of any card that could accumulate or distribute counters.. the results could be potentially limitless!
So, what do you think about Proliferate? Do you plan to include it in your decks? And if so, what do you plan to gain by adding it? What builds or combinations catch your eye as being particularly effective?

I totally plan to use proliferate with Sarkhan the Mad. Love the Idea of putting counters back on to him.

This is how I plan to use proliferate. Only problem is, I don't have a single Doubling Season and $60 is a bit much for me to spend on just four cards.
BUT, assuming I can acquire them over time, this deck should become pretty ridiculous. It was ridiculous in it's first iteration, Grafting onto my Arcbound Creatures, then using Arcbound Ravager to move all of the counters from blocked creatures to unblocked creatures. With Doubling Season in play, every time a Modular or Graft creature comes into play, or moves it's counters, they double. Add proliferate into the mix, and they grow even bigger!
Plus, because of the way +1/+1 counters work, assuming my creatures are large enough, I should have no problem intercepting creatures with Wither or Infect, although their -1/-1 counters would be doubled as well...
There's just so many vintage abilities that use a whole variety of counters to achieve something.. Proliferate, in many cases, completely circumvents the cost-to-benefit balance of many of those cards. Take Magistrate's Scepter, Bottomless Vault, or Gemstone Array... etc, etc... for example.

I plan to use proliferate cards in my blue black white artifact deck to up charge counters and +1/+1 counters. I love the idea of using it with infect because thats obvious ownage, but I don't like using decks that win by infect. Thats all i did to win my games today in the pre release tournament and it got boring.

I haven't seen anyone use it at my prere...so I don't really see it happening yet......
Though I could see it work in a eldrazi levelers deck...that would be wsm...
and ofcourse corosion engine (or was it contagion? or something like that) is offcourse a great example of how it could work...

I have been running it in my artifact deck, which has been fun--mostly for +1/+1s, charge counters, and -1/-1s on opponents. If I wanted to be a total douche, and felt like dropping the cash, with the right combo I could drop a Jace and use his mill ability the turn he comes out, esp. if I have tezzeret out.

THIS.
Proliferate on Everflowing Chalice is perhaps my favorite thing to do with it. Makes that artifact so broken it's ridiculous.
AND
Lux Cannon Shennanigans. Cannanogans. Lux Cannanogans. Mmm...

I asked the ORCs on MTGO about this, and they said that the counters cancel each other. So if a creature has 2 +1/+1 counters on it, and it receives a -1/-1 counter than it would just remove one of the +1/+1 counters. I thought the same way you were, and I was going to use that to my advantage, but they told me I was wrong...

I have another deck that I built to use proliferate with Sarkhan the Mad, but I haven't finished it yet, and it's not too good... lol.

oh, just remembered another idea I had for a proliferate deck, is to use it with Trisky... Just an idea right now, but I'll eventually build it.

I meant with Doubling Season (D.S.) in play.
If I have a creature with +1/+1 counters, they will be multiplied for each D.S. every time another counter is added to it (x2, x4, x8, x16). The same can be said about Wither and Infect. With Doubling Season(s) under my control, those -1/-1 counters would be multiplied in the same manner. This means that regardless of those D.S., I'd gain +1/+1 counters, and remove them via -1/-1 counters, at the same rate with or without said D.S.
This is not so much a problem with Proliferate (as a matter of fact, +1/+1 counters are the best counter to Infect) as much as I was saying that those Doubling Seasons would see a decrease in value against an Infect deck (though they would still beat the shit out of one ;))
