Deck Challenge: Newish Player needs deck

Like the title says i'm a newish player and currently have an infect deck that i'm using as my main but am looking for another deck i can use mainly for fun or when i get tired of using the infect deck rapidly. It doesn't matter if it's in the meta or not but i was thinking about doing a discard type deck or maybe a W/G combo kinda deck.

I made this deck when I was getting back into Magic. It's a WG landfall deck that I inserted a fun combo idea into, and it's been great fun in casual matches. I wouldn't recommend following the decklist exactly (it could be greatly improved, even sticking to budget), but you could take a look to get ideas.

A few questions:

-Are you looking for something more casual, or for tournaments?

-Do you intend to play just Standard, or are you open to using pretty much any cards?

-How much are you wanting to spend?

-And, are there any specific cards you already have you'd like to include in the deck?

It depends on how you like to play the game

Newer players tend to perfer aggro (not that a lot of older players don't also, but sometimes it is harder to play control, and it is almost always harder to play combo imo). But you don't have to play aggro by any means.

suggestions: (just the general charecteristics, not a deck list for now)

a fast mono-red red deck wins style: lots of lightning bolts or other cards that just deal as much direct damage to opponents life as fast as they can

green ramp: use cards such as llanowar elves and rampart growth to quickly get lots of mana and play really big creatures and smash face

with mtg12 illusions look like a fun deck that really wouldn't be too hard to play, get lots of illusions, a few counters, and lord of the unreal

blue black control: use cheap creature destruction like doom blade and go for the throat in combination with counterspells to delay the opponent until you can play a really big creature and win the game

blue white control: this might be a bit harder to play than blue black control depending on how you build it, but use counterspells in combination with cards like venser, oblivion ring, and etc. squadron hawk can also be used to great effect.

and the last deck i will list, though there are many more, is mill: use cards like jace, the memory adept, tome scour, and hedron crab to make the opponent have no cards to draw in their deck, so they lose their next turn

hope that helps some

weenie decks are fun and easy to make get a bunch of cheap to play creatures throw in some equipments and voila you have a deck then post it so you can get some suggestions on how to make it better

you could also try a creature type based deck (goblins, elves, zombies,etc...)
also pretty easy to put together then modify to work well for you

now you want a decks thats just gonna be mean try slivers

Sorry for not posting been busy recently but anyway to answer a few questions:

- looking for a deck for whatever the current format is i believe it's standard right?

- i used to play before but took a few years off and decided to get back into the game so i do somewhat know what i'm doing it's mainly just the newer cards i've yet to fully learn

- i've always used a Black deck but figured one would be to slow with high mana costs

- my main infect deck ( http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=210732 ) is able to kill in roughly 5 turns so i know how to play aggro but wanted to try a control type of deck for a change

- are vampires any fun because they have started to catch my attention just wouldn't know how to do a proper build for them?

Yes. Zedikar block vampires are amazing and seem to destroy me no matter what I bring to the table. They are/were a common sight in standard because of how simple yet powerful they are.

Though the Zendikar block is leaving standard in October(November? I lost track) so they won't last long if you want to play in tournaments :(.

Back to actually helping build a deck: I'll see if I can build a combo deck for you that's standard legal :)
