Cast as many creatures as you want. When the board gets to full, boardwipe and pull out your general. If you didnt overextend a have 1-2 artifacts in hand, you should be able to get most of your board back. The underlying idea is to boardwipe and reestablish board presence before your opponents. Do not cast general if you do not have cards in graveyard.
