Deck discussion for Angel Delight

Ok, a few things. Take a look at that mana curve. You won't get anything out until at least turn 4, if you're very lucky. Most of your opponents would be almost set up to destroy you by then. Take out a few of your bigger angels and put in some smaller creatures. Also, take out your dispense justices. You don't have enough artifacts to get the full use of it. Maybe use Swords to Plowshares instead.

DivineWinds, thank you for your advice. I did notice the mana curve. I am hoping someone is aware of ways to generate white mana.

Also Swords to Plowshares is a good idea, I'm hoping to offset some of the creature problems early on by preventing damage and removing opponent creatures.

What I want to avoid is putting Weenie creatures in at all. I really want to stay faithful to keeping it angels only.

Problem with swords to plowshares is it is not legal in a standard deck

Kid sometimes you gotta make a choice, Standard, or Legacy and therefore better ?

White is terrible for mana accel. A personal fav of mine to help with this is Extraplanar lens. If you are playing a multiplayer game, Luminarch Ascension could definitely help you early game. Sigil of the Empty Throne might not be a terrible idea, either, if you go the route of adding more enchantments. Your other option for early damage is either a) prevention instants or b) some more life gain, to keep it closer to even until your deck can take off. Not bad, over all.

Righteous Cause might also be an interesting addition to this deck.

Thechurchishere many thanks for your contributions

I considered Sigil of the Empty Throne but I would need to add more enchantments alot more. Extraplanar lens and righteous cause aren't valid in standard. Although extraplanar lens is exactly the sort of thing I need to speed this deck up.

Luminarch ascension is a very good suggestion. Combined with safe passage it might offset some of the problems with this deck. I am wondering though since it needs four counters and takes two to cast it wont be useful until about the 6th turn.

I could add 4x silence and 2xluminarch ascension. But what to remove? Im thinking Marshalls anthem and true conviction can go, remove 1x deathless angel 2x ionas judgment. Just one more card... maybe one of the platinum angels.

Made the above changes..... This has changed the balance to make over 30% castable in the first 3 turns and they are all to shut down the opponents attacks early on before turn four when the angels start appearing.

Just need to remove one card.

I did put Luminarch Ascension in but then it occurred to me that if I put in several semblance anvils then i can reduce the cost of the deck and get several powerful angels out by turn 4 rather than wait til turn 6 for luminarch to work

ahh i see. I play kitchen top /home magic so im nto sure what else to offer. Are the emeria sky ruins t2? also oblivion rings should do nicely and some path to exiles for early game removal i think?

Sky Ruin is valid and I might add it to this deck. Problem is non basic lands come into play tapped and as this deck is already quite slow I might lose a turn playing a tapped land. I've sideboarded the card.

Iona's judgement is a little slow, and by the time you have five mana you'll probably want to use it on an angel. Maybe replace it with a one or two cost defensive spell like pacifism or even a life gain like rest for the weary, also consider removing one of the serra angel and/or shepherd of the lost for some lower cost cards as well.
I really like this deck, I had actually thought about making a prison type deck with angels that had a splash of blue in it. I guess the only thing you should keep in mind is that you will be just fine about the time you hit 4 or 5 mana but until then, you should do all you can to stall.

Thanks Chimera, there's a lot to think about here.

You are absolutely right about Ionas Judgement. I originally had 4 in this deck and took a couple out as it was too slow. The only reason its here in fact is in the event that my opponent plays a large creature or wall later in the game. I also can't bring myself to pacify some weenie 2/2.

Rest for the weary might undo some of my opponents early attacks, I prefer this to adding pacify. Should I remove Ionas Judgment and put in rest for the weary? I might come unstuck later on.

Also I can't put remove serra and put weenie creatures without losing the intent behind this deck.

Yeah try putting those in, but maybe sideboard Iona's Judgement. It would be useful against decks that rely on specific cards to be successful like the titan ramps.

Changes the mana curve nicely. Half this deck is castable in the first 3 turns, all to stop the opponent. Then the fun begins

coat of arms anybody???

0

i mean if you had a couple coat of arms youd have room to throw some weenie angels in there and by the time you have enough mana to pull out your strong angels....see were im going with this lol??

Well to keep it standard, use dual lands and add green. Then early on you can use land searching spells for mana ramp, and you would have fog and similar. Also... no Chancellor of the Annex? (I mean it seems like the perfect turn 1 stall even if your not first :D )

no greens but i do agree with chancellor of the annex :)

Put in timely reinforcements as a replacement for your biggest and least likely to play angels.
Keeps you alive as much as anything.

No Angelic Destiny?

Wouldn't that be redundant if all he's running are Angels anyway?

Focus on 4-6 cards that cost over 5 mana and play cards like silence to hinder the enemy.

0

well if you wanted more enchantments and want to stay faithful to the flavor of angels then maybe angelic destiny

0

I would consider putting a splash of green, for ramp. Stuff like summer bloom, heartbeat of spring, harrow, etc.

If you're trying to keep this deck standard, you're screwed in 2 months.

Mycosynth Wellspring could help with mana acceleration as it is colorless. And if you want the full effect, you could add some Phyrexia's Core's to gain a life and another land.

Main deck at least a couple Emeria, the Sky Ruin. There's no reason at all to SB them.

Also, I know you're loath to put non-Angels in, but... Adaptive Automaton might as well be one. ^_^

Then again, if you're not revising this for M12, then all this is moot...

uhh this deck is way too slow to be a serious contender in any match.

You may want to add in a "Caged Sun" or 2 to double/tripple the ammount of mana you get from your plains and give your angles +1/+1 per Sun.

Just a thought.

Hey thanks to all for your comments. Just to let you know I have been playing this deck successfully for a few months now. The deck just about works if I am honest, if I draw Semblance Anvil and Silence in the opening hand I am virtually certain to win with this deck. Otherwise it is bit of a struggle in the early turns against fast decks. On the whole I just love this deck though... Something about having a battlefield full of angels kicking ass
