Deck Description

Hakim has been one of my favorite cards for many years because I like combos and card advantage, both things that he provides. This deck is designed to be fun, casual and dirt cheap. It has some Human and Wizard tribal elements, but it's mostly about constructing interesting combos.

How to Play

It's all about getting the right auras on the right creatures. There are a lot of creatures that can tap for damage, card draw or other useful effects, and there are multiple ways to untap them so you can use them multiple times each turn. There are creatures with Heroic that like to be targeted with spells, and there are some auras that can return themselves to your hand and be cast again. Since I don't like having my nicely enchanted creatures blown up, there are cards that grant Totem Armor, Hexproof and Shroud.

This deck is intended to discard some cards, either from drawing them too fast, or from using the Dreamscape Artists's mana ramp ability. Discard the expensive-but-beneficial auras, and then Hakim can pick them up later. Why cast Fool's Demise and Drake Umbra for 4U each, when Hakim can "cast" any aura on himself for UU?

Although this whole deck might be found in the bargain bin, it has a lot of ways to "borrow" the expensive toys used by opponents. In particular, Confiscate, Take Possession and Volition Reins can enchant any permanent, including lands, non-creature artifacts and even planeswalkers.

Hakim himself is often the last commander to hit the table, because he's expensive and doesn't really serve any purpose if there are no auras in the graveyard. He can thrive in an environment where people are using board wipes to kill all the creatures. He can survive these using Totem Armor or one of the Demise cards, then collect all the combat auras out of his graveyard and go on a rampage.
