Deck Description

Thank you for bringing this deck to "Upcoming"! I have gotten a salary raise and can spend a bit more cash on this deck, so bring on more suggestions if you have them!

I want to try to avoid adding any more from the Mirodin block due to the rotation in October. Infact if you can think of good replacements for the current M12 and Mirrodin cards I'd love to hear them :D

EDIT:-------------------------------
So with your input the deck has changed to something a bit more well rounded, which I love! Malcontents are still in here to deal big damage in mid/late game, but it can also win on Champs and Sun Titans.

I wonder, would it be worth it to perhaps bring in either Vigilante Justice or maybe some Cathars' Crusade
to get an even stronger late game, what do you think?

Edit2:
Revamped the deck to be rotation safe.

Edit3:
Removed Cloudshift completely, they got used too rarely for me to warrant them in the deck.
Added 2 Hellriders instead of the conscripts as I tend to have plenty of creatures out it should pack a punch.

Deck discussion for The Malcontents

A sun titan or two might help if they board wipe you also i might recommend conjurers closet instead of mimic vat once mirrodin drops... just a thought.

When does Mirrodin drop? Is it when M13 comes in July?

Anyway yeah that's an OK replacement I guess, but I will miss Mirrodin :(
hmm and sun titan is a very good idea, maybe 2 of those and skip Angel of glory's rise..?

Scars of Mirrodin, Mirrodin Besiged, New Phyrixia, and M12 will no longer be standard legal when Ravnica Returns releases. Get with it guys

Removed the Restoration angels and got Suntitan in instead :)
I'll leave the Mimic's in until Mirrodin is out.

not a fan of the Cathedral Sanctifier, i would be more focused on attack. i would replace her with elite vanguard. but overall really nice deck!

Thanks man! I see your point of view, but since I am not really trying to deal that early round damage (except with the Champion perhaps), that extra life is quite nice. Especialy since I can cloudshift them or pick them up with Sun Titan if I need some more life. The vanguard would not do all that much more than two damage likely.

Or for the vampire decks, midnight duelist might help. Nice deck.

The Mimic is very nice with the Titan, even better with the Angel :) ... I'd drop 2 Revolt & put in 2 "Increasing Devotion"...

Ah man well spotted, that is one excellent card!

There, Removed one revolt and one Cloudshift for 2 Increasing Devotion. I think I'm starting to get ready to get the cards I'm missing, because as usual, with just some feedback you can fine tune an "OK" Idea into something actually playable ;)

In a deck wanting to deal excess damage off of Kessig Malcontents' ability I'd run the following cards:
Gather the Townsfolk
Increasing Devotion
Cloudshift
Restoration Angel
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
And some burn spells to finish the job.

I know it's not the direction you took, it's just what I would've done :p

Well I use all of those except for Restoration Angel (but it was in from scratch) and Gisela.

But what scared me a bit with ONLY relying on the malcontents damage was how many sweepers there now a days :/

to go off of what ded plays, i had rw humans, and malcontents had me turn 4 wins consitantly, so if you take priority, you should be winning before boardwipe
also titan rotates in october, so don't rely on him too much, i would say go with a couple thraben doomsayers, they have a good fateful hour and spawn human toekns by tapping, which pumps your idea more

Nice to hear Thrandir, I am aware of that I will need to rebuild it some in October, Mimic vat as well as the titans needs to be replaced then. But until the spoilers back to ravnica starts dropping I can only guess what to replace them with, But as you note, Doomsayer is very nice and I will keep him in mind :D

Thanks for your input :)

Nice deck! I pretty much agree with all of the above, my only 2 suggestions would be to think about adding Zealous Conscripts and Lightning Mauler. The Conscripts can turn a bad situation into a good one, especially if you bounce it with Cloudshift and Restoration Angel. The Mauler can give haste to your Strikers and Ringleaders. =D

Yeah like I said, I think your version is a bit better, I will study it some more and see if I can change around some.. Getting a hold of Restoration angels will be a challenge :P

So this is the token deck you said about (on my standard storm). I would reccomend Herald of War, as it's never bad in humans. Crusader of Odric and Odric himself could be good, as the crusader effectively has the same damage output as malconets in this deck, and Odric himself is fun for screwing up the opponent's defense.

Interesting suggestions.. and I do like them cards.. What would you suggest taking out then?

hmmmm..... well i see you put in the odric stuff......
i think 3 cloudshifts is a bit much, and cathedral sanctifier is overrated (sorry, i just have a personal vengeance against lifegain).....and dude, Y U RUN Goldnight Commander, should be Cathar's Crusade!

-1 Cloudshift
-1 Cathedradl Sanctifier
-2 Goldnight Commander
+2 Herald of War
+2 Cathars' Crusade

I deffo agree with the cloudshifts, they just don't seem to be needed at all in the deck.
The Sanctifiers are just there for chump-blocking and the extra life they give is nice. Sure doomed Traveler would work too :)

I was debating with my self between Goldnight Commander and Cathar's Crusade.. The reason I went with goldknight is because he's a human and he's on cmc 4 instead of 5. Sure, in the long run Cathar's is better, but I don't want to end up in "the long run" for too long ;)

I did some testing with this Odric setup but didn't like it at all as much as I did with the earlier setup, so I'm going back a step :)

Again thanks for all the input :D

Pretty solid. I'm thinking that maybe yo should add 1 more Fiend hunter. Have you considered Doomed traveler? Btw, hope you could check out my decks:

I got one more Fiend Hunter in, and yeah I've considered Doomed Traveler instead of Cathedral Sanctifiers, but I don't know, I just like the life gain more I guess.

I'll check your stuff out :)

Heh the deck has really taken a turn from just being based on the malcontents to a strong beater. Thanks everyone :)

the way this is going it's almost that I'm considering turning it into this instead:

I still think cloudshift s an amazing card, for one mana, you can block anything and still save your creature, or you can double the damage of your malcontents in one turn, you can take two permanents with a conscripts in one turn, plus your pumping up your champions every time you use it as well as buffing everything else when cathars' crusade is out. Honestly other than the malcontents/conscripts themselves, I think cloudshift is the best card in the deck.

Yeah I noticed that when I took them out, so they got right back in there, but only 2 instead of 3 and it balanced out a lot better :D
