Deck Description

In looking at Strive, and heroic, I decided these two really belong together. Battlemage Thaumaturge really just pushed it over the edge. So here's my take on having them together. Sideboard was what I clipped out. Still haven't decided what else to clip down.

Deck discussion for Striving for Heroics

I built this deck for some casual play with friends because I had most of the cards already, I really like heoric and strive and I think this Deck will work but I was wondering exactly what your battle plan for it would be? what kind of win conditions you would use, that kind of stuff

There really aren't any set in stone win conditions on this one. The deck seems to just go for a general buildup and overrun. The core idea was Launch the Fleet + Battlemage Thaumaturge to hit all of your creatures for just a single white mana, triggering heroics like crazy. Follow that up with an Hour of need and you end up having all the tapped 1/1 soldiers suddenly turn into 4/4 sphinxes. It's enough to dizzy your opponents as your battlefield explodes.

That said, beware removals like Ratchet bomb.

wow I did not even think about the Launch the Fleet/Hour of Need combo....thats a good one! do you have any thoughts on another planeswalker other than kiora? I thought about running Domri Rade and using the Crayatid to tap for a red mana to bring him out. Also, why the Bident? i dont know why you would want creatures to attack you

The bident is there to facilitate card draw every time I do damage to a player. I rarely use the activated ability. Domri would certainly be a badass in here, though as you noted, you need the Caryatid or maybe sub in a few unknown shores or Transguild Promenades to get you the red mana you need.

Though not standard legal, one of the Garruk's for creature generation couldn't hurt either. No matter the choice, I use my planeswalkers as nifty backup/support ideas, rather than focal points of a deck (hence only the 1 of each).

yeah i agree, i really like this deck and as soon as my battlefield thautermage's come in the mail it will be complete. One more question, do you use your strive instants for defense more, as in, waiting for someone to attack you and then shoving heroics down their throat, or do you wait and only use them on your turn when about to attack?

Most of the time, they're offensive tricks, but thankfully they can go both ways. This deck is meant to overrun the enemy fairly quickly, so it's very offensive minded. Also, with as small as the creatures tend to be, this is about quantity, not quality, so they aren't gonna be able to block big things easily.

played with it for the first time last night in a big game with 3 other people, came in second so not bad for a big game. i didnt get too much strive going as battlefield T. came out late, but i got the bow out and used the +1/+1 counter ability every turn on fabled hero and then doubled them with solidarity to make him a 15/15 double strike and then made him flying with airel formation and ended someone right there. didnt however get out any launch the fleet which is sad because that card with battlefield T is a gold mine

Nicely done. Glad it performed well, despite the Battlemage hiding from you.

i recently added a card to this, dismiss into dream. Its a very high mana cost but a late game ender if i have a battlefield tham. and ether one of the launching fleets or glimpse of the sun god. for one mana i would trigger all my heroics and simultaneously make my opponent sac all of his.
