In honor of Northy, going to try my hand at a few budget decks. I've worked on a few in the past, but this one seems like it has a lot of potential thanks to its very powerful lord being so cheap.You can land a whole playset of Pheres-Band Warchief for about a buck, which is crazy considering how powerful it is. +1/+1, vigilance, AND trample for each and every Centaur? WOW. He's the crux of this deck, obviously, but even without him, this is a nasty bunch. Fanatic of Xenagos and Burning-Tree Shaman are beasts for their cost, Swordwise Centaur and Woodland Changeling can get you off to very quick starts, Nylea's Disciple can recoup gobs of life later in the game, and Druid's Deliverance can shut down counterattacks while populating your Centaur tokens, as can the flexible Sundering Growth while zapping key artifacts and enchantments. Adding the Warchief (and Stonebrow!) to all that just seems mean.The sideboard offers protection for your creatures (including anti-wipe Wrap in Vigor), Leyline of Lifeforce to shut down control, and sorceries that clear the skies of fliers.This whole deck can be yours for less than $20, so if you need a fast and powerful deck in Modern, give it a look!
