Deck Description

A more modern spin on my popular Lonely Artifacts deck from the last Standard cycle. (http://www.mtgvault.com/jre47/decks/lonely-artifacts)

Like that version, this one takes two fun concepts I always wanted to work--"loners" from Avacyn Restored and Exalted--and smashes them together for some fun results.

How to Play

What really brings it all together are the artifacts: they're creatures only when you want them to be, so you can turn one on at a time and gain benefits of loner cards and exalted, or turn several on for mass offense or defense, depending on need. They're perfect for triggering loner cards like Homicidal Seclusion and Demonic Rising without dealing with the strain of running only one creature at a time, and of course get exalted benefits (Cathedral of War). If you need more creatures, you "turn on" more creatures. If you don't, you leave them as mere artifacts while taking the pain to the opponent with board wipes.

Even if some creatures do stand in your way, you can skirt past them with the evasive Dimir and Azorius Keyrunes or just remove them the hard way with Azorius Charm and Dispatch. Orzhov Keyrune is mainly for defense; no exalted help there, but Homicidal Seclusion can make him a very scary blocker to run into. Haunted Plate Mail makes for a nice conditional 4/4 beater with NO activitation cost once it's on the table, or for 4 mana it can be slapped on one of your other temporary creatures to beef them up tremendously. And if you're not worried about loner benefits, with some tricky stack games, you can activate as many as you want at once (just activate each in response to activating the last...they'll all resolve together).

The sideboard is stocked with additional board wipers (if you need more or need ones with special benefits), ways to slow down really creature-heavy aggro decks (Blind Obedience, Ghostly Prison), Blind Obedience for more help for single attackers (the exalted is nice, but the tapping is the real benefit), Darksteel Brute if you're facing heavy burn or kill spells, and Ætherling as a true creature you can threaten with if necessary.
