Deck Description

"But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood...."

How to Play

Yes, another Breach deck. This one looks like many others, but with some key differences.

First off, beyond a couple of the creatures to try and sneak in, this is all red. I know many dabble in blue for Show and Tell and other hijinks, but I'd rather have my mana better fixed and consistent. This also allows me to focus on Blood Moon (and Magus), with six such effects in the main and two more than can be pulled in from the sideboard. Several Legacy decks just completely fall apart with Moon out... and Chalice (easy to play for 1 on Turn 1) wrecks many others. This deck still has a strong control potential without having to go to the traditional "control" color.

The other big difference is the inclusion of what many consider a junk rare: Myr Battlesphere. Unless blocked, it deals 12 damage out of the gate, 4 direct and 8 in the red zone. The guarantee of 4 is nice against decks with good blocking, just as Inferno Titan is a great way to get guaranteed damage on a clogged board. Unlike the Titan, though, Battlesphere also leaves behind four little dudes that can get in extra damage after the fact. I've won several games dropping an early Battlesphere and then finishing the opponent off with damage from four little 1/1s over the next couple turns.

The only other thing of note is my sideboard choices. These have been refined over many playtests. I've gone through other potential creatures like Scuttling Doom Engine (also 12 damage potential, and all but a guarantee of at least 6), Woodfall Primus (gets to come back after dying and can snip key permanents on the other side of the field), Siege Dragon and others, but in the end, I've opted to go with another Titan for now. The sheer damage potential and ability to zap two blockers has been too reliably good to ignore. Two more Magus of the Moon can be brought in for decks that really crumble under Moon effects (there are many). For creature control, Anger of the Gods (with its exiling) and Volcanic Fallout (with its instant-speed crown control) are great. (I've also toyed with Bonfire of the Damned, but I usually wished I just had Fallout, so I use that now instead.) Defense Grid and Pyroblast are usually all the control stiffling I need, and Grafdigger's Cage is an obvious choice for graveyard and dredge decks.

So yes, it's another Breach deck, but this one has been pretty consistently awesome, and still has some surprises that throw folks off their game. If you've never tried this kind of deck out, give this one a shot!
