Deck Description

Just imagine it: it's late a night, you're strolling down a moonlit alley, and then you hear an odd sound, almost like a wet slap. Then another. And then more, coming closer. You realize they're footsteps as a dark bluish creature stumbles and shuffles towards you, moaning a bit. (You could swear you hear it say "brrraaaaaaiiiiinnnnssss".) Then you see fangs, just before you flee the scene. What WAS that thing?

No, it's not a cruel April Fools' Day joke...the joke is instead on your opponent as a horde of brain AND blood craving monstrosities swarm them like a bad 80s horror film!

How to Play

This is the second of a short series of decks focused on Changelings. These memorable creatures from Lorwyn are typically used to bolster other races in Magic...tribes that need a few more creatures to fill in the gaps. But since they count as ALL creature types, why not instead make the Changelings themselves the focus and splash in some cards from multiple tribes that all boost those Changelings?

For black, the most obvious tribes make a big mark here: Zombies and Vampires.

Zombies contribute one of the all-time great "lords"--Undead Warchief--and one of the best overall creatures in the game: Gravecrawler, who can spot any ol' Zombie--or Changeling!--to keep coming back for more. Call to the Grave forces non-Zombie creatures to wave goodbye to their owners each turn...your Changelings, posing as Zombies themselves, are immune. And finally, Ghoulcaller's Chant works perfectly fine on two Changelings, too...which is good since the best part about Moonglove Changeling is that it can gain deathtouch and take another creature down with it. Bring it and a friend back with Chant and watch your opponent's face fall.

Vampires don't offer any creatures here (besides all the Changelings, of course), but bring the powerful Feast of Blood to the party. (And Urge to Feed in the sideboard, if you need more.) Also, outfit a Changeling with a Blade of the Bloodchief and reap the rewards. It's a great way to get these otherwise low-power creatures into fighting shape.

Other tribal contributions come from Pack's Disdain ("I'll name...uh...Aardvarks!" works just fine) and Mark of the Oni. Sure, Changelings can pretend to be Demons if the situation calls for it. And they can even pass as Myr to enter play cheaply or come back from the grave with Myr Reservoir. :-)
