Deck Description

EDH

How to Play

A deck based around shadowborn apostle. Abuses the apostle's ability as a sac engine to search up game ending demons and generate more creatures. Uses creatures buffs to swing with the shadowborns as an alternate win con. Has plenty of methods of removal, mana generation, and draw to strengthen the deck's strategy. This deck is very unpredictable, but lots of fun to play.

Deck discussion for Apostles of Jund

well, lets start with the basics. you may ask yourself why only 60 cards. well players use 60 cards because that way, its more reliable to pull a card that you want. This also goes along with why players have 4 of a card in their deck. Some players even try to have cards that are "fillers" making the deck more like a 56 or less card deck. The point of a good deck is to do the same thing. When you draw your hand, you should be able to name 5 cards, and 2 of them will be in your hand (not counting lands)
I look at your deck, and it reminds me of decks i used to make. unreliable, and most games i lose, and when i lose i think, man if i only drew that "ONE" card that i have in my deck. The chances of that being slim to none. Before you do anything else, i want you to reduce this deck to around 60 cards, or 59 cards and a street wraith (if your attached to your 9's)

thank i want you to get x4 of cards. use the below to guide yourself
4x Can't get enough of it, would love 3+ in hand
3x Love it, but don't want to draw more than 2 in a match
2x Special card, only want 1 to be drawn in a game (usually a specialized card for when you get stuck, or a legendary creature)
1x Wammie, rare card for your deck that you will need in tough situations. You usually have a card to search it out when your in need and will only need once (example, 4 green sun zeniths in a elf deck and i have 4 different 1x cards that help me draw cards, do combos, destroy enchantments, or a wammie to end it if i have the mana.

once you have done this, we will be able to work on your deck :)

This is EDH...a format that requires a 100 card deck including 1 general and no other duplicate cards other than basic lands...the reason i'm able to play 30 shadowborn apostles is the wording of the card, which bends the above stated rules for EDH. I'm not new to magic, i've been playing for over a year, and made plenty of 60 card decks for other formats...before composing such an elaborate comment, read the title of the deck "EDH: Sek'Kuar's Apostles" and notice "EDH", perhaps research what that is, and then inevitably save yourself the time of explaining to a seasoned player how card quantities work and "how to make a better deck". That comment is kind of offensive...

in that case, what about progenitor mimic as your general?

In EDH, your deck can only include the colors of your general...and this deck revolves around a black card: shadowborn apostle. I'd seriously consider that you look up EDH (or commander) and read the rules, it would clarify everything i'm trying to explain and perhaps give better insight into how this deck, and other EDH decks, work.

I think the deck looks fine as is but now that I have looked at it I have started remembering some cards that you could at least consider. Shirei would be good for this, no rest for the wicked would work, gleancrawler, savra would be an interesting add but I don't see any way for you to gain life in the deck, (I might have missed it when I looked) took yet another look at the deck and saw that you are playing grave pact so maybe not savra, golgari germination and oversold cemetery. Using the 3 colors in the deck was something I had not thought of, I like what you have here. It's good to see someone mix it up every once in a while, if I made something using the apostle before I saw your deck it prolly would have been a mono black build but now you have me wanting to branch out and try something different.

Yeah, i started out designing this deck as a shirei mono black deck, which was fine and functional. But i've noticed that a lot of people are going that same route, and i wanted my deck to be distinct (and also wanted access to more colors to add variety to the deck). Jund has allowed me to focus not only on shadowborns demon-tutor ability, but also the possibility of using the shadowborns as capable attackers...which is good, because i'm running 25 of them. I'd definitely try searching for other generals that have good interactions with shadowborns and playing around with other color combinations. I've found that green in particular is very effective, giving you access to cards like bloodbond march, mana reflection, and garruk. Thanks for the comment :)

Gleancrawler is great, by the way. Definitely adding

Fecundity would also be a decent add, if you find you are not drawing enough cards. Of course it is a double edged sword and could end up hurting you because it allows for all players to draw as well. It's easy enough to take care of if it gets out of control, just blow up your own enchantment.
