Deck discussion for Riposare in Pace

First off, is this for competitive, or casual? And if competitive; vintage, or legacy?

Just casual or I wouldn't have 4 demonic tutors :P

Hadn't even noticed them lol

After a couple of test hands it seems this would probably benefit from some form of draw, it seems a bit inconsistent. Perhaps some Phyrexian Arena's would go well here? And you've only got three rise from the grave's as reanimation spells other than your creatures, I know it's not a normal reanimator, but it's always helpful to have something like exhume, reanimate, or even animate dead. Relying solely on creature effects to reanimate is neat, but it's very vulnerable to removal, and a bit inconsistent.

Threw some stuff out and added a few other things i.e. Exhume, Zombify, Phyrexian Arena

Yeah Exhuming Iona turn two against a monocolored deck is usually an early scoop

I play U/B reanimator, and yeah... Scoops occur a LOT. It Blazing Archon/Stormtide Leviathan are also some pretty good choices that early, won a lot of games with that. I don't quite like stormtide as much as the archon though... I'd rather have the game 1 against fish if I can take it.

Yeah Blazing Archon is super nice. I might replace either Reya or Charnelhoard with it.. it was those 3 in a race when I made this.

I'd probably replace Charnelhoard, Reya can give games to reanimator. Recurring the Iona they just killed is just sick :D

Yeah, Blazing Archon shuts down anything.. pretty awesome. Put it in with Iona and Reya.. basically unbeatable.

That's why my favourite tourney deck is my reanimator, it has the tech to beat EVERYTHING.

Hah, so I tested this against a couple friends last night with B. Archon..

Turn 1: Swamp, Dark Ritual, Buried Alive (Iona, Reya, Blazing Archon)
Turn 2: Swamp, Exhume (Reya)

From there.. nothing really stands a chance. And to top it off.. I went first..

The only thing that I'm iffy about is the Prince.. I don't think he fits. He's good and has helped, but I feel there's better options. What do you think?

I've started using a single It That Betrays, it's a large creature that takes what they sacrifice, with annihilator 2 to ice the cake. Much more fun than prince imho

Hah, and I have one. Just one.. so it makes it perfect for this deck. I'll test it out.

I do, very much so. It's pretty bomb. Thanks for all of the help with this deck. It's turning into something I can be proud of.. comparing it to what it started out to be isn't even possible anymore.

I took a look at your BU reanimator and decided to make that my next big project.. so you're becoming inspiration all over the place :P

I warn you, I've been given filthy looks, and cussed out many a time for playing that. If you follow that style of reanimator, you must be prepared to be the local douchebag of magic.

I also suggest that you strive to build one from the ground up too, reanimator is one of those decks that has to break you into its groove, and building from scratch makes that easier.

Oh, I intended in no way to follow anything from your deck other than it's colors. I don't really enjoy following plans for decks when I build.. sometimes it turns out that it does, but it's never intended. That's how you learn to play the deck.. finding it's flaws and fixing them on your own; playing through them.

Good, that right there made you one of my favourite builders.

I wish you good luck, and that you enjoy yourself playing magic.

Haha, thanks. Coming from someone who knows more than me about the game is a huge compliment to me. I will enjoy, and you do the same.

sheoldred instead of reya

I agree here, she is much better. They sack and you grab, cant be much better than that? And even if it's a mirror match she just does work on w.e they reanimate. I would love some suggestions on my G/W Humans deck, if anybody has any! http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=260889

yeah especially in combination with It that Betrays you'd definitely go for Sheoldred instead of reya

This look like a solid build. Its an interesting take on re-animation. However, may i suggest adding some enchantment removal to your sideboard - a Leyline of the Void could potentially ruin your day. I was toying with the idea of dredge but it would likely slow down your game plan...

This deck looks crazy fun to play. Though I think my friends would just stop playing with me lol.

I like the deck. I agree with the above comment that Sheoldred is generally better than Reya, but think that Reya fits this decks uniqueness more. One card that I was recently turned on to for my re-animator deck is the the blue praetor Jin-Gitaxias. Check out my version of re-animator if you like. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=256505 Keep up the good work!
