Deck Description

My friend asked me to improve his Dimir mill deck. He already had several consuming abberations and tome scours, so this deck is built around those 2 cards. Aside from Consuming Aberration, this deck needs $ for Hedron Crab and Lasav. Feel free to replace him and Lasav, Dimir Mastermind with cheaper alternatives.

How to Play

This deck aims to mill you opponent quickly, not kill your opponent with damage. Your one-drops Hedron Crab and Drowner Initiate cause even more mill. Your midrange creatures Dimir Infiltrator and Deathcut Rouge wreak havoc with your cipher spells. Lasav and Consuming Aberration make your opponent's library a giant liability. Finally, Szadek, Lord of Secrets is a giant pain in the ass. As for other spells ... your instants aim to mill, your enchantments aim to mill, your sorceries ... you get the idea.

This deck could be a lot of fun with a Golgari teammate in two-headed giant. You could pump your friend ... by milling them!

You should be aware that this deck is pretty slow. Against faster decks, cipher spells, mind control, and a beefy 2 drop are your friends.

Deck discussion for Dimir Discard

Mind sculpt is strictly better than paranoid delusions. Other cards that would do well: trepanation blade on an unblockable creature, Havengul lich is a good sideboard option against other U/B or mono black/blue decks.

Or you could mainbord havengul lich if you add chromatic lantern. Either way it's just a fun card to take your opponents discarded creatures.

I prefer Consuming Aberration to Havengul Lich. How does Chromatic Lantern steal creatures?

It gives you mana of any color to cast them..... Example you make someone discard a red creature, you pay the 1 colorless for lich's ability then with chromatic lantern you can use swamps/islands as red mana to cast that red creature.

Oh, I see ... I think that I shouldn't graft that combo onto here. It deserves a dedicated deck!

Good idea, I run it in my dimir zombie deck with rooftop storm to get my zombies out of the graveyard for 1 mana.

Yikes ... now that's a horde! Now I bet you run diregraf captain as well =).

Sure do, also undead alchemist and lich lord of unx. It's my favorite casual deck to play.

Lol, that's GREAT. You should see Northern's main deck ... you'd like it.

I've seen his, I prefer a little more blue in my zombie deck though. I think the only blue he has in his is diregraf captain.

Back to this deck: I just remembered the card I was trying to think of, mind funeral. Just an idea but 3cmc and opponent mills until they reveal four land cards. Cast two and they've milled 1/3 of their mana along with countless other cards.

I like it. I think it fits better than Trepanation Blade here.

I'd run it in my zombie mill deck but I'm already trying to figure out how to eliminate some 3 drops as I have too many

Yeah I was trying to think of it earlier but trepanation blade was all I could think of.

I like it ... I will replace Trepanation Blade with it.

have you thought about dimir cutpurse?

1

Yes. Unfortunately, it's not unblockable, and I have other needs for my aqueous forms.

surely you could find a home for just a couple of them? since the only cards you'll really need to enchant with aqueous form would be the consuming aberrations

Alright ... I put it in place of deathcult rouge.

I like it!
Perplex is needed to counter things like wheel of Sun and moon, or add removal (probably for the sideboard)
duskmantle guildmage, dimir charm, glimpse the unthinkable, memory sluice, paranoid delusions, and Phenax, God of Deception, are really good mill cards to consider (especially glimpse the unthinkable)

Great input! Dimir Guildmage will replace Dimir Infiltrator, I will sideboard perplex, and I like memory sluice more than tomb scour. Just to be clear, I will make an unblockable deck.

Just FYI U/W makes for a mean unblockable deck. I have a standard one that's fun as hell to play.

It's azorius although you could make an orzhov version with tormented soul and holy mantle. I have an exalted deck with tormented soul and holy mantle.

Add Evolving Wilds instead of Guildgates (if fetches are over your budget - they are certainly over mine) to get more from hedron crab. T1 u play thought Scour or whatever for one blue.
T2 u drop hedron, than evolving wilds and sac it for another basic land - mill 6
Also its worth considering Visions of Beyond.
Also Mesmeric Orb instead of Chronic flooding - it mills a lot especially against aggro creature decks (and its a killer against token decks).
Another card I can recommend is breaking//entering...

This is how I play B/U mill (budget version - no Glimpse)

And my slower fun version
