Deck Description

Can you hear the sailorman's hymn?
As it comes with the rise of the tide
It is sung where the rainbow begins
As a comfort for tears she has cried

~Sailorman's Hymn, Kamelot

How to Play

Land is your most basic, and valuable, resource. Without it you simply cannot win. Land destruction in most cases doesn't come in until about 3 CMC, is normally found in red and black, and generally can only be used once. Land manipulation, however, comes in very cheap with a blue deck, can be used continuously and in many cases can be adapted over the course of the game.

Count how many times your opponent says a variation of one of the following:
I don't care if you change the color of one of my lands.
At least I get the card back in my hand so I can play it again.
You can draw an extra card, it doesn't matter.

Once your opponent realizes they can't play anything and that you are drawing an extra card or two nearly every turn, then you'll notice they have less to say about the above and more to say about your mother's nether regions.

Play Reef Shaman early because of summoning sickness, and Sea's Claim right behind it. If your opponent does manage to play a card, Remand or Chain of Vapor can take care of that. Remand is often underestimated because it goes back to the player's hand, but now you know what is coming and can adjust your strategy, and you get a card. I find Chain of Vapor to be ideal because you don't need to target lands thanks to your other 1 drop cards, and if your opponent opts to bounce one of your permanents then they lose a land anyways. Rhystic Study is win-win as everyone should know. Either you draw a card or they have to spend more mana, which is in very short supply thanks to your land manipulation.

This basic foundation is very cheap and long-lasting. You will have plenty of spare mana for playing your creatures and setting up the rest of your combos while your opponent struggles to play anything. Stonybrook Banneret and Merrow Reejerey makes everything cheaper.

Your most common kill with this deck will be using a Mirrorweave on either Reejerey or, preferably, Master of the Pearl Trident. With either one all you need is 4 creatures in play and you have four 5/5 creatures attacking for 20 damage, and islandwalk with MotPT. Mirrorweave also works well in the event that your opponent manages to bring a out a creature worth copying.

Cloudstone Curio gives you one of your most effective infinite combos. The most basic of which is peeling with Merrow Witsniper. Play Witsniper for 1 blue mana, untap an island with Reejerey, your opponent mills 1, you return another Witsniper to your hand, then repeat. Combined with Banneret you can use Silvergill Adept for infinite draw or Tidal Courier to pull all of your Merfolk out of your library. Eventually you will get enough Reejerey and Banneret to play every creature in your deck and you can choose our favorite merfolk combo to win from there.
