Deck Description

zombie knights..

How to Play

a work in progress. i prefer only 60 cards.. can't seem to figure out a good land balance... any help would be great!...

the deck is primarily a token deck. sac your zombies to create more and more tokens.

general idea is to get a combo going with death baron, haakon, and ashes of the fallen. all creatures are expendable, send zombies to the graveyard with crypt for 2/2 tokens. with colossus in play you can cast them back with another token to follow. add +1/+1 and deathtouch via baron.

dark ritual helps get haakon and inversion into GY.

combine phyrexian altar with gravecrawler and colossus for a nasty infinite token combo.

appreciate any and all input!!

hit that LIKE button!!! ;D

can anyone help explain ashes of the fallen... i understand the necessity of having a certain creature type while in my graveyard but do the creatures keep the additional type once they hit the battlefield? or is it only while they're in the GY

Nameless inversion. It is a knight and a kill spell, it is in fact the card that even competitive decks sometimes run with Haakon.

It seems rather dubious to run 2x Ashes and 2x Haakon in a deck revolving - in no small part - around those two. Buried Alive does serve to alleviate this problem a bit but should Haakon be exiled or enchanted in a way that disables his abilities you would find yourself in quite a precarious situation.

Phyrexian Crusader seems out of place... the chances of you drawing 1 by turn 3 are 57.3% then it would need to survive and hit your opponent 4-5 times, which while possible, is taking away from the strategy that the rest of the deck has deployed.

20 lands seem like a very small amount, the chance to have 3 lands by turn 3 is 72.2% (assuming you went 1st), the chance of hitting a 4th land on curve is 53.6%. Not terrible odds, but not great either.

Last thing that I'd add is that Dash Hopes is almost always a plain terrible card, I said 'almost' because 17 land mono black aggro decks can use it as a counterspell, any other deck will soon find the card quite useless.
Alms of the Vein is a similar card, only good in hyper aggressive aggro decks or metagames that will have you playing against such decks fairly often.

That would be all the critique I can muster. The deck seems to scattershot with me not being able to identify what the main *focus* is.

hey thanks for the input!! i like the kill shot with nameless.. the deck started off as just zombie knights. i like the idea of casting from the GY. then i figured i would find a way to spawn tokens in exchange for the GY play. i threw in phyrexian only because it was a zombie night. the idea was if i couldn't get ashes to fall i could still pull knights out. dash hopes was included to mitigate any exile on haakon. i realize there are better cards but that's just what i fell on. alms and netherworld are simply there for their madness ability. added bonus for having to discard...

mass tokens in exchange for zombies that are being cast back once in the GY..

what about diregraf ghoul? cheap 2/2

Since this is not modern legal, I recommend phyrexian altar. It's the only missing piece to make diregraf colossus and grave crawler go infinite. Infinite 2/2 zombies, an infinitely powerful colossus, and since you have infinite creatures and the altar, infinite mana of any color.

will the token still count when casting colossus from the GY? meaning will he enter the battlefield bringing a 2/2 with him or do i need a colossus already in play?.. i like the idea though. why not add another combo?! altar can easily replace army of the damned and dark ritual. i added altar to the sideboard for now. this deck needs one more creature i'm just not sure which yet...

so i could literally sac a gravecrawler, use the bonus mana to bring him back for free, with colossus on the field i bring a 2/2 zombie with him, and with death baron in play, they both now come in with a +1/+1 and deathtouch? and i could technically do this as many times as i want?.. is that what you're saying?!

Indeed. Welcome to the combo side of Magic, my friend. As for another creature, cemetery reaper should fit the bill. It's a Lord that makes zombies. Note that it says A graveyard, so you don't have to toss your own graveyard to make them.

can you explain casting order from the graveyard? i've never had to before so i'm not sure how it works. can creatures only be cast in the order they're put in? what if a creature isn't at the top of the pile?

For gravecrawler, it can be cast from your graveyard as though it were in your hand as long as you control a zombie. It doesn't care where it is in the pile.

i knew that much, what about the rest of the creatures?..

i'm just curious how the GY works. i've never had to cast from it so i'm not sure how it works for creatures and the order i can cast them in. i know the GY is a single pile so am i limited to whatever creature is next in line or can i cast any creature instead? what if the next card available in my GY isn't even a creature, what then?

GY order only matters to two or three cards in all of magic. The rest dont care where they are in it. So unless you have one of the cards that care about GY order, you can SHUFFLE your graveyard and it won't matter. This is a simple case of RTFC. If the card doesn't say it matters, it doesn't matter.

Thought about it but with the infinite combo it won’t take long to build tokens. If it’s mana cost was lower I would definitely reconsider
