Deck Description

Grixis control as inspired by Patrick Chapin. I've always wanted to play Grixis and I've been scrapping lists all week trying to come up with something fun and competitive.

I liked Patrick's explanation on why Grixis loves 61/26 so I'm keeping it that way.

He gave me a good start, now with a few tweaks it feels ready to start frustrating my opponents. I wont start really playing a deck like this till M14 hits. This is mainly here so I have a list to tweak later.

Advice and constructive criticism appreciated.

How to Play

This is a tapout deck. You're always aiming to set a faster tempo than the opponent with Grixis.

Deck discussion for [Standard] Grixis Control

Not big on 61 card decks but thats me. Anyways, why maindeck Izziet Staticaster? I see it more as a board card. Also there are way better cards that allow you to draw/filter than Divination. Also I'd run Bonfire of the Damned over Devil's Play. Also don't get why Blast of Genius is in here when you could be running Searing Spear/Ultimate Price or anything that is better than Blast of Genius. I guess if you get Gilded Lotus out it wouldn't be hard to cast but you'd have to get Gilded Lotus out. Creature base is fine I suppose. Looks like your main win condition is AEtherling. May I suggest Sire of Insanity? Just something to look into.

Sire would ruin what I'm trying to do I did think about using him but I decided against that sense I'm using Blast. Blast is more of a first game card, to get boarded for Rakdos's Return or Reap Intellect depending on the match as it's mainly an anti-control card.

Izzet is in the main because of the prevalence of token decks in my local meta. But you might be right. I was thinking of using Rakdos Keyrune but lotus is just too damned good to me lately.

Divination is there because it's a tempo boost and I can play it off of a lotus. Not to mention I've had some really bad luck trying to get Desperate Ravings to work for me.

Grixis Control will need a complete revamping with M14, I'd like to continue to tweak this in the mean time.
