Deck discussion for Archery

Ahh, this is pretty cool. I've never considered, nor seen an archer deck before.

I've also been playing around with a U/W aura control deck idea with creatures with "{T}: Deal N damage to target attacking or blocking creature." Most of them have been errata'd to be Human Soldier Archers.. so, I'm thinking that could be a fun G/W deck instead, if I get a hold of Greatbow Doyen. Thanks for the idea! ^_^

Look into Archery Training. Amazing white enchantment for this deck.

works flavorfully, but too bad that was before tribal :( What should I take out for it? Gideon perhaps cuz he doesn't fit the theme and its mostly for the lols anyway?

Gideon works awesomely. |+2| During target opponent's next turn, creatures that player controls attack Gideon Jura if able. Plus Greatbow Doyen + Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile.

I'd say that because they have such similar abilities, I'd run Archery Training in place of Viridian Longbow. Both have their pros and cons, so it's up to you to decide which you like better.. Viridian Longbow costs more to use (4 total) and only inflicts 1 point of damage, but it is persistent if the creature is destroyed. Archery training costs less to use (1 total) and inflicts increasing amounts of damage, but is not persistent if the creature it enchants is destroyed. Both are roughly equally susceptible to direct destruction (most destruction spells seen in a main deck will target both artifacts and enchantments.)

Alternatively, since both work great in this deck, I'd think maybe dropping a few of your more expensive creatures. You have 36, which is more than enough. I'd also find room for Elvish Harbinger to pull your Greatbow Doyen out of your library.

I had a similar deck once, but this is definately an improvement on mine.
Favourite combo still has to be the Viridian Longbow/ Thornweald Archer. Deathtouch pinging!!

hmmm, you're right that's why I put gideon in- thank's for reminding me. And yeah, longbow is also archer flavor but not technically tribally significant, so I could switch that out, but I do also love the deathtouching pingers. I think I'll pull out the sagittars- they are pretty expensive and not that good.

Agreed. Looks great! :)

Only other thing I'd suggest then is replacing Silhana Starfletcher with Elvish Harbinger. Harbinger costs the same, searches your library for another Elf and puts it on top of your library, and taps to add one mana of any color to your mana pool. She's not an Archer, but overall fits the theme by heralding the arrival of a Doyen.

Edit: Actually, I'd drop 2 Starfletchers and a Scattershot Archer to run 3 Elvish Harbingers.

Probably a good call sir- I will miss having those being an archer slot but finding doyens is good- too bad it can't also get brigid

Time of Need searches for legendary creatures, but it's not worth including in this deck just to find Brigid. Elvish Harbinger can also search for any other Elf you might need, whereas Time of Need is only good for finding Brigid.

im not saying i need something that searches for brigid, just that it would be nice if she was an elf for the harbinger to grab.

Lol yeah, I got that. Just went on a tangent :P

Btw, do you know of any ways to give the opponent's creatures flying en masse to take advantage of Scattershot Archers? I looked but couldn't find anything. They're a great 1-drop creature, but you might want to look at moving them to the sideboard in favor of Crossbow Infantry. I think they'll be more consistent.

I don't think so- the two cards fill totally different slots- crossbow infantry is almost as conditional, and it is a 2 drop with 1 toughness instead of a 1 drop with 2 toughness

I'm a big fan of odd tribals. This one is really pretty cool. I'll admit I don't know all that much on the subject of archers, so I doubt I could be of that much help. =/

Nicely done.

I've witnessed Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile + Greatbow Doyen killing a player in one turn. The attacker attacked with 30+ Saprolings, the defender then tapped Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile to do 2 damage to each attacking creature which then resulted in the attacker reciving 60+ damage because of Greatbow Doyen :p

I originally thought Gidion didn't fit, but after reading his -2, awesome :D

If you want to add something flavorful try Serrated Arrows.

As much as it would go against the wonderful flavor of this deck, I really like Kusari-Gama + Archery Training. If you decide to go that route, I would consider switiching Hankyu for Viridian Longbow, as it goes with that combo as well. The other card I feel this deck (and the one Savaj wants to create) would benefit from is Coordinated Barrage--great addition here for both flavor and mechanic. Overall, I really like this deck...may have to steal the idea. :-)

basilisk colar + bridgid, hero of kinsbale = THEY CANT DO ANYTHING! also, basilisk colar is just such a fun card, it'll help no matter what. Mirror entity will help get the deck to it's final swing faster, and it can also turn your bops and maybe even your Gideons into archers.
The deck looks great man. hope i helped.

Wow, all this feedback is making me kind of want to actually make the deck now. Thanks guys, and I will look at your suggestions, just don't have time now.

Leaf Arrow might be nice, It's like lightning bolt, but it's green and only works against flying creatures.
