What about Malignus? I think he would be a fun card for this.

I would take out one Llanowar Wastes to have 23 lands, and add 2 more Gary to have the full four

I could see Varolz as a good tiny leader using some of the cards in this deck too. Wanna make a tiny leader version Northy?

That's always my problem too. I find myself having "pet cards" that aren't exactly good, but I just love! I would cut everything that you have 1 of EXCEPT Silence the Believers; that is actually a good card! Taking out the 1 of cards will keep the consistency in what you draw.

After that I would add one more Bile Blight and Hero's Downfall; they are good removal, and I can't think of a reason why a mono black deck wouldn't run a playset of each.

Then, I would add two more Silence the Believers. This gets rid of those pesky Indestructible things if you ever encounter any.

Last (Well kind of last), I would add in two more Crippling Blight. Getting rid of blockers is going to be super duper useful.

Ok. Now that that is out of the way there are some cards I would swap in. I don't like Grim Haruspex just because I don't think its ability is all that great. I would swap him...her...idk what it is but anyways put Grey Merchant of Asphodel instead. Mr. Gary will gain you life and drain your opponent just for having other things in play. A pretty good finisher or close to finisher.

Then I would drop one Archfiend of Depravity and add a Reaper of the Wilds. This is just so you don't have too many 5 drop cards to slow you down.

Lastly (for real this time), is the land. Many many issues with this. If you do all of the changes I suggest, this is how I would do the land.

4x Temple of Malady
3x Llanowar Wastes
the rest basic swamps

The reason being that the 3 reapers would be your only green thing, and you don't need Radiant Fountain because Gary will gaining you a ton of life anyways.

I hope I didn't overwhelm you XD

You want to always keep your deck at the minimum amount of cards allowed, so find a way to get this deck down to 60. Also, All of your 1 of and 2 of cards are ruining the consistency in your draw. You want to have higher chances of drawing the good stuff which means cutting the random stuff that you think might not work. Most standard decks have 4 of every single card they run to keep that consistency; although, there are some exceptions where you will see maybe one card thats a 2 of or 3 of because its a legendary creature, planeswalker, the win condition for a blue white or esper control deck, or it just isnt good enough to run all 4 but you need 2 of it.

Here are some decks that you can look at to see what I mean by all of this. I even have a mono black one

wow....guess I need to RTFC because I just realized that Varolz can protect himself from wraths as long as you have another creature out to sac. Bonus points for putting Darksteel Plates in tho haha :p

Also, I just thought of adding Darksteel Plate. Again, I'm not sure if it's budget, but if someone wants to raise the budget when making this. There are a lot of things to give Varolz hexproof, but that doesn't protect against wrath spells. Just an extra precaution to keep Varolz safe.

This deck is awesome! What about finding a spot for Ghoulcaller Gisa, so she can be a sacrifice outlet? I'm not sure if she is budget or not, but I think she would be helpful here.

Definitely would be a pretty good enchantment for this deck

That would be pretty cool. Two Vorel activations in one turn. Kiora's Follower can do the same thing if he was added in here.

Cool deck and a good read. Maybe this is just me, but Magmatic Chasm might be a better option than Hammerhand. Hammerhand only takes care of one blocker, but I do get that it gives haste and a 1/1 bonus which are good too. If you take out all the ground blockers, I would think you get more damage in that way though.

This seems pretty cool. I would suggest adding some cards like Honor of the Pure, Dictate of Heliod, and/or Spear of Heliod in order to boost all your creatures.

These are cards I actually have, so that's why there are only two.

I am a Johnny! Unfortunately, the people in my play group in town are all Spikes, so they drop hundreds on the top standard decks. The disdainful looks on their faces when I beat them with one of my not as expesnsive combos is a beautiful thing. XP That's mostly because I also hate the secondary market for sky-rocketing the prices on good cards, but that's another conversation for another time. This post is a very good read Jessie. Good work.

For being aggro, you definitely have a lot of high costing spells. Maybe switch something out for Monastery Swiftspear, and maybe switch out some of the more expensive to play spells for some cheaper burn and protection spells.

Took out War Flare and Jeskai Sage. They seem to be too clunky. I added Akroan Crusader instead since its a 1 drop, and I added Collateral damage to use Crusader's tokens as ammunition.

I added Monastery Siege to the sideboard to replace ascendancy. I can swap it out for Ascendancy if I want to hold those removal heavy decks off. A 5 mana Hero's Downfall wouldn't be fun for my opponent :p

I guess my main thinking was that War Flare is kind of the bread and butter giving everything an additional 3/2 because of prowess. Ascendancy would also be really good main deck doubling prowess basically and giving that card draw. I think cutting one War Flare and one Temur Battle Rage would be acceptable. I'm still in the process of making the final trades for this deck, so I'll be play testing once I get it.
