Deck Description

Burn spells+chandra's spitfire+grim lavamancer=win. Manabarbs are in the sideboard to take care of heavy control deck like ones that would run leyline of sanctity.

Note: this deck got 3rd at my local fnm

Deck discussion for chandra's lavamancer

good job taking advantage of the new cards

If you can afford it, I would run 6-8 fetchlands to help fuel Grim Lavamancer. If you do this, than running Searing Blaze maindeck becomes an option. I would also drop the Pheonix... that card was basically designed to make Chandra playable. Since you don't have Chandra, you prolly shouldn't play it. Goblin Guide or Ember Hauler are better choices.

On the SB I would run Ratchet Bomb, or some other way to kill Leyline of Sanctity

The phoenix is reoccurring since it bounces back whenever you do damage with a red instant or sorcery, which is almost half my deck. and good call on the fetch lands

Like the changes. With 8 fetchlands you should seriously concider Searing Blaze md.

If each land made it do more damage but i have just the same chance of getting a fetch land as a normal one. One land coming into play effects it just the same as 2 lands coming in. I liked your ratchet bomb idea btw. thanks.
I will keep your suggestion in mind but i have to play test it at fnm and there might be changes afterwards.

Yes, but since a burn deck does not require many lands, you can often afford to leave a fetchland uncracked. That way, you can cast it during your opponents turn for the 3 damage still.

the problem with searing blaze is that if they dont have a creature, then you can't use it. If you are facing a valakut deck then it will be hard to get in a lot of damage in the beginning if you cant really hit them

Most Valakut decks I see run Overgrown Battlement or Lotus Cobra and GSZ, though you do have a point. There's enough low-creature decks in standard that its probably not worthwhile maindeck.

I wonder if it would be a good idea to change 4 mountains into Coperline Gorges. That would let you run Nature's Claim or Naturalize on the sb...

if someone runs a leyline in a heavy control deck, manabarbs will just rape them. They can activate their colonades or gideon will be harder to play.

you might want to consider more lands

Great deck !!! I've made something similar but kept it all Elemental. Your key card is definitely Kln Fiend here. By bossting it's power, you can get turn 3 win. You don't even need Spitfire.
If you'd liketo check my deck and give some advice. Thanks!
