Deck Description

Darien, King of Kjeldor EDH

My focus on this deck was taking cards that had the downside of dealing damage to you and turning them into to soldier generators. With Darien and any of the "Soul Sister" cards on the field you essentially can't lose through means of damage unless you go below zero in one instance.

I think some of my best cards for this are my lands, like Tarnished Citadel .

WIth Darien and Soul Warden (for example) on the field Tarnished Citadel essentially reads

tap: add 1 colorless
tap: add 1 of any color then put 3 1/1 soldier tokens on the field

Some of the other all-stars for this kind of combo include: Jinxed Idol , Mana Crypt , Ankh of Mishra , and Time Bomb

Now because I'm essentially playing a Soul Sister EDH and Darien only poops tokens when I take damage I included cards that punish my opponent even more for dealing damage to me such as; Michiko Konda forces them to sac a permanent for touching me and Spear of Heliod destroys a creature and provides an anthem effect.

Mana ramp comes in the form of Caged Sun and Gaunlet of Power for increasing my output and Land Tax and Tithe for search.

Jade Monolith can save my more important creatures if I'm forced to block with them, while Story Circle helps keep my opponents commander at bay.

Card Draw is pretty hard to come by in mono-white so Mentor of the Meek , Slate of Ancestry , Well of Lost Dreams and Skullclamp help to keep my hand full.

The main finisher in this deck (aside from overwhelming amounts of soldiers) is Mirror Entity as it pumps all my 1/1 or 2/2 tokens into huge beaters.

All the painlands such as; City of Brass , Ancient Tomb , Grand Coliseum , and Nomad Stadium synergize well with Darien

Any suggestions are welcome as I am always looking to improve this deck.

Deck discussion for Darien, King of Pain EDH

Why are you so light on soldier tribal? Your tokens are heavily supported with things like:
Field Marshal
Daru Warchief
Benalish Commander
captain of the Watch

and so on.

Cathar's crusade might also help

Overall, though, nice deck.

the reason I didn't have them was because I was going for more of a soul sisters/take all the damage kinda of thing

I do acknowledge that moving toward a soldier tribal subtheme is good though so i have added a couple lords

A deck description would help ;)

But if that's the case this deck is lacking lifegain. You run a few but the cards that damage yourself outnumber them greatly. Things like Wall of Reverance, Gerrard Capashen and Angelheart Vial would serve this deck well (they also provide other useful abilities besides life).

And regarding cards that support soldiers I would concentrate more on things like equipments, enchantments and so on rather than lords since creatures are swiped regularily in EDH. Things like Veterans Armaments and Mobilization. Oh and get Elspeth Tirel.

Oh and Thumbs up for including Jinxed Idol, I love that card and it combos fantastically with Darien, good job :)

added deck description and I worked in Gerrard and Elspeth

seeing as most of my creatures would be dinky i feel like wall of reverance wouldn't give me that much lifegain and i'm not too impressed with the return on angelheart vial, i have to pay 2 mana and take at least 4 damage to get 2 life back, not feeling it

as far as lords go in my playgroup creature removal (other than mass removal, in which case any lord or anthem effect is null) is few and far between, but i'll try other options if the lords don't seem to stick around

otherwise thanks for the suggestions they were much appreciated

The Vial also grants you a card!

whoops completely missed that maybe after some more playtesting i'll reconsider it, but right now i'll keep it on the back burner

I usually put cards I consider adding in the sideboard, that way I can't lose track on them.

Stuffy doll and use it's effect on yourself perhaps?

that is an interesting thought, I like it but i'll have to do some testing to see how it plays

do you have any suggestions for any cards that should be taken out for it?

Maybe Farsight Mask. Most of the time you eat damage will be your own damage, lol.

BTW, I wanted to suggest to replace the Armageddon Clock with Time Bomb. It's cheaper but also works on creatures (and does well with Stuffy Doll, too).

time bomb seems good but as opposed to removing Armageddon Clock (which I like because it hits every turn) I think i'll take out Torture Chamber

Opponents can take counters away from Armageddon Clock. I don't know your meta and if you are playing multiplayer or not, but usually, there will always be at least one opponent that has nothing to do with his mana and remove the counter.

i do agree that there might be a person with nothing to do, but I would still prefer they wasted it on the clock rather than on something else

it tells me they have nothing in hand if they are unwinding the clock which is nice info

I think what he is getting at is if they have nothing to do it means they have no other play/dead turn so why not mess with your gameplan with their open mana.
I agree with Puschkin.

After some thought I replaced Armageddon Clock with Eldrazi Monument as monument provides protection and evasion to my soldiers
