Deck Description

This is my third remake of this deck, so hopefully I learned my lessons with the previous versions. I'm still looking to make improvements and would love to hear everybody's comments!

The idea of this deck is to stall by countering and removing all their threats until you can get Chasm Skulker out and win. I chose Chasm Skulker as a win-con for a few reasons:
1. I already had a bunch sitting around
2. It'll survive my boardwipe/ opponents removal in the form little squid tokens
3. It'll grow ridiculously fast and if your opponent is at 20 it'll put them on a 5 turn clock (if you have Phyrexian Arena out)

This deck is REALLY hard to win with if you don't get Phyrexian Arena out. It doesn't have to be a turn 3 play, but if its not out by turn 15ish the game is pretty much over.

***ALSO I need a LOT of help with the sideboard...so if you're good at that kinda stuff I would really appreciate the help***

How to Play

Chasm Skulker- main wincon as described above. Once he comes out paired with the Arena its usually game over.

Nyx-Fleece Ram- a nice 5 toughness blocker that also negates Phyrexian Arenas life loss ability (which is important because this deck tends to take a TON of heat early game)

Gitaxian Probe- this is the only one drop- and it'll usually be cast as a 0 drop. It allows me to look at my opponents hand so I can know what to counter, and also lets me draw a card so its not a dead drop late game.

Supreme Verdict- obviously checking off the boardwipe box on the control deck essentials list....I chose supreme verdict for two reasons: 1. Its the cheapest ($$) 2. It can't be countered, which will help against the control matchup.

Deprive- this is possibly my favorite counterspell ever (even though I discovered it today). It allows me to counter a spell for two mana and bounce one of my scry lands.

Dissolve- three cost hard counter that lets me scry to find the important parts of my deck (Phyrexian Arena/Chasm Skulker)

Utter End- catch-all removal... this will take care of enchantments, planes walkers, creatures, etc and at instant speed!

Hero's Downfall- removal thats specific to creatures and planes walkers, so no artifacts or enchantments

Phyrexian Arena- this is the engine of this deck. It pumps Chasm Skulker while grabbing me more counters and removal. This deck DOES NOT work without this card.

Mana Leak- in a lot of circumstances it is a hard counter, and in tempo decks it disrupts their tempo

SIDEBOARD

Tidebinder Mage- one matchup I'm worried about is the agro matchup, and this will take care of any pesky red goblins that get through my counterspies

Rune Snag- These go in for the dissolves against really fast agro decks so that I can play them a turn earlier

Surgical Extraction- obviously this an AMAZING card...not in mainboard, because it helps to know what you need to target and in the first game of a match you don't really know whats going to problematic always.

Silence- I LOVE this card. In the control matchup it can either run a counter out of my opponents hand, or if it doesn't, I get to cast a Phyrexian Arena/Chasm Skulker without the fear that it will get countered. Against agro matchup it just sets them behind a turn, and lets me get that extra land that helps me cast like 80% of my spells. However, it doesnt do a whole lot against all decks, so its in sideboard

Deck discussion for Esper Control....V.3

Hey a friend and I created our own version of modern spiders on a budget, http://www.mtgvault.com/caantpayrent/decks/budget-fun-spiders/ I'm pretty proud of the final result for a $5$ its super strong. Have a look tell us what you think, maybe even show it some mtg love. Spiders FTW mate.
