It would work in standard? Best guess and I think I'd agree with him it seems a little unreliable

other than tagiams scheming, how are you milling yourself? seems like you need rakshasha's secret or something

I agree, Dark Deal might help.

Sounds like the start of 5C waste not? That would be interesting.

If you're going that route, might as well throw in Soulflayer...

Agree with this. You need more reliable ways to mill yourself, so you can bring those creatures back. Also, with that amount of creatures I would like to have more things that bring creatures from my graveyard to play without exiling them afterwards (like the awakening)

Its an interesting deck. not a fan of the mana curve but it looks almost like your trying to play from your graveyard. except that there is only 2 cards in the deck that allows you to pull from your graveyard unless i missed something since i dont see any ramping i have a hard time seeing how this deck will work. Erebos will bring them in for one turn then they are exiled. Obzedat, ghost council would be a good card to add.

Prognostic Sphinx would be phenomenal in this deck as a discard outlet for drawn fatties. It would also be a fine card to reanimate. I also think you have too few creatures to run 3 Whips, you may want to run more Fearsome Awakenings instead.

I have no idea why someone would downvote my advice unless they have an emotional attachment to Whip or a score to settle with Prognostic Sphinx. Whip of Erebos is legitimately troubling because of the low numbers of creatures and one time usage. Lifelink is not enough by itself. Prognostic Sphinx is a proven control finisher and great way to smooth clunky draws and put fatties you can't cast into the grave, although admittedly not great with boardwipes. If you think I am wrong, tell me why.

Dude, that's not what we mean by used once. First of all, you spend a turn doing nothing but getting it into play, making it less mana efficient. Also, lifelink is not terribly valuable in a deck that plays Resolute Archangel. But the most concerning aspect is that if you whip back a fatty you feel great at the time but it disappears forever at the end step. Because you only play 5 creatures, it's quite possible that you won't find another one. So you use your one win con to attack for 3-6 damage and a bonus effect and then lose or go to time looking for another... Whip is only really worthwhile in a deck jammed with creatures.

Compare to Fearsome Awakening which leaves the creature around for another attack, and pumps dragons. Used on Silumgar creates a 6 power evasive win condition and you have counterspells even if they find a way to get around hexproof.

I'm only butthurt when I get downvoted without explanation.

Lol, I addressed that you had good advice and I just didn't agree with your suggestion to add more fearsome awakenings. I sure hope this comment doesn't get downvoted too! Oh wait, actually I don't care. Cool deck anyways, Nisshoku

On the far right of every comment there's a little number with arrows above and below it. You can upvote or downvote it and the number will change correspondingly. Much like Reddit

if a comment gets -3 then it gets deleted, and each +1 and -1 affects your reputation which appears if someone clicks on your profile. generally you'll get down votes for being super aggressive, or for posting a deck link without giving advice

Looks like a solid deck. I like that it's a meshing of esper control and whip decks. +1

I kinda like it like this so I might have to toss up a 2nd more creature based version.

I was inspired by this deck, so I made one that relies on Rescue from the Underworld, a pet card of mine. It combines really well with Jeskai Sage, which I use as a roadblock that doesn't lose card advantage.

3 Rescue from the Underworld
4 Jeskai Sage
3 Prognostic Sphinx
2 Tasigur, the Golden Fang
1 Resolute Archangel
1 Ashen Rider

4 Thoughtseize
4 Dissolve
4 Hero's Downfall
4 Dig Through Time
2 Bile Blight
1 Disdainful Stroke
1 Utter End
1 Crux of Fate

3 Flooded Strand
4 Island
2 Plains
4 Polluted Delta
2 Swamp
4 Temple of Deceit
3 Temple of Enlightenment
2 Temple of Silence
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

Rakshasa's secret would be a solid card here, dissipate is OK, but I'd really prefer the playset of Dissolve. I hope this helps and if anyone got excited over the PT, take a look at this fresh modern brew http://www.mtgvault.com/gothy/decks/surprise-high-5-to-the-face/

Still trying to get the strategy but thats ok... That doesnt mean it's not a good deck.
My feel is that you could try to "balance" it a bit by removing some instants and/or sorceries to make room for some creatures. The up-side is that given the low number of the creats in your deck, "end hostilities" and "crux of fate" can be very devastating for your opponent.
Also I think that 24 mana is a bit too much, since it only allows you only 36 more cards.
Moreover, i think you should remove the fountains since they give you colourless mana, and get some more multi-coloured lands in the deck. Polluted Deltas are good cards but never understood the use of such cards. You could substitute them for the dual land of the same colour.
Also, what about the colgari cards? They have nice graveyaard mechanics and you could incorporate some in your deck!

Anyway good deck, and good job for keeping it standard!

Sultai has some nice toss in grave cards. The only problem is that this is more of an esper control build with a whip finish. Fetches are great for finding a specific color of land and they fuel delve while thinning out the deck increasing consistency. I might put up a more creature based version adding green (4c). Thanks for checking it out.

Personally I would drop the ancient for the torrent elemental. He can be whipped multiple times for devastating damage. The legendary mono black guy for 4b that's a 4/5 and allows you to mill yourself can be a great wall and with all your instants and sorcerries you cast you should be able to throw him out fast off of delve.

Other than that I would aim for more creatures and ditch some of the less Important spells for more bombs to reanimate with the whip.

I really like it although if it was my deck i think it'd take out all of the reanimation as you only have 5 creatures and it'd run it as esper control add some banishing light and some nullify

While it is similar to solar flare, it's more of an esper control build with a whip finish. You just have to play smart with your creatures. I will definitely toss banishing light in the sb for now.
