Deck Description

Well it is pretty simple, I bought that deck yesterday and i want to make my way to touney with it! I am pretty sure i can beat American control with it because Mimic+thragtusk= 5 life per turn.. :)

Deck discussion for RUG Control tourney

Finally i made my choise of deck to play until Innistrad rotates, here it is!.

I am willing to spend money again to make some changes and also i really want to make my sideboard better.. i didnt know what to put in it at all.

You need to take as little damage from your own cards as possible. Especially against aggressive decks.

I added Alchemist's refuge and Wolf run, i dont know if they are any good in that deck, i would like advice on them.
Should i change them for Basics ? or should i put 1 more izzet charm for any of those and run only 24 land?

24/23 land if you have the charms because your curve is so low test with 24 if you fill out the 4 mans slot then adjust as necessary. Also the refuge is only really good late game, and even Then it makes your things cost more, witch just makes the deck run less smoothly. Wolf run is good.

I domt have much experience when it comes to RUG, but I'm a person fan of niv-mizzet himself, because pingers are sweet, and he's really good for card advantage. Honestly though, he'd be a one of in this deck, and I'm not sure if there's any room in the mainboard for him, so maybe take out an aetherize for him for tough midrange matchups. That's where he will shine.

I really like the mimic/tusk idea, but I think you may be working a little hard, and there doesn't seem to be much other than holding up a counter spell happening in your 3/4 man slots, and I have a feeling that this is where this deck is going to hurt badly. I know it's obvious and boring, but hunts master is an absolute gem. But if you're not willing to splash out on a soon to rotate card, use ghor clan rampager instead.

Hope my thoughts have helped you improve this deck, and you start tearing up the tourney tables with it. :)

Also, if you're interested, take a look at this modern deck, I'm trying to make it a community effort, because I would really like the idea to evolve into a TT deck. It would be greatly appreciated. c:

i will add for sur Niv-mizzet in my SB!
When i think about Huntmaster, i think about midrange.. and i really want my deck to be Control, i have faced a lot of American control deck and they really shine ( They won game day and the last 4 FNM i went)

If you have any idea to make my deck better at controling to make sure i can cast Mimic or thragtusk and win the game, i would be greatly appreciated.

Last point, i added Alchemist refuge to be able to cast Mimic on opponent turn and gain 5 life on his turn and 5 life at my Upkeep on the same turn, i know it will happen 1 time in a million years.. but who doesnt not love to dream :P

P.s. that deck is really the first deck i built from scratch and im new to magic ( started playing at Innistrad)

Hi everyone!

i have play tested a lot my deck with one of my friend yesterday and i came up with some changes. i think that Jace in that deck rocks. but only for his -2.

If you have any suggestion on what to change again feel free to tell me before tomorow because i will play a tourney after that!

well memory adept really only helps for Mill in my oppinion and i use Architect of thought for his -2 to get the card i want as fast as possible, let say i reveal Mimic, land, syncopate, they can split how they want to because i can use syncopate from my graveyard. i will always take my creatures, also his +1 will always help me vs aristocrats deck because i shut down pretty hard spirits!

I see your logic. I tend to lean towards Memory Adept because I love to mill, especially when tormods crypt is standard.

Type your deck name...Hi everyone!

Is Huntmasters that good in a control deck? i have been thinking about him for a long time. but i feel that it is going to be more midrange if i add him.

i might try it if someone tell me good arguments to use it.. and to spend 50$+ on those cards.. lol

huntmaster is like the best control card ever:D in the worst case it makes you gain 2 life and 2 2/2 blockers which I think is pretty impressive. in better cases if the opponent cant play anything it gets down one of the enemys creatures and becomes an aggressive attacker that comes really useful considering the opponent did NOT play anything so he wont have so much blockers. this is the reason why did it cost 30 usd and its still at about 10 which is not that bad. and my last reason is that you have no 4 drop in this deck only the jace which, lets accept, isnt the best card against aggro. its better gaining some life and having blockers than having a lot of cards and btu having no time to play them. I hope I could make you think again about them:)

Type your deck name...This for those tips! i will add them to my deck ( 2 of it ) i will sideboard my jace for them and will side in jaces for Aristocrats matchup and more midrangy deck. i was also thinking about putting in my sideboard either mark of mutiny for Rites or Stolen identity. do you think it will be worth a spot ?

hmm it dont think that type of card could be a really a good card in this deck. it works way better in aristocrats. if I were you I'd rather add some more burn to make sure your enemy doesnt have anyithing on the battlefield. the 4th snap could be also a good choice

Type your deck name...OK ill add a 4th snap for sur i was thinking about that for a long time.. the thing is that they are 35$ in my local store :( ill post my final sideboard! i will play that deck today at a tournament. After i will post my result .

well I think it depends on you. in some case desolated lighthouse can save your ass pretty well. But in some case you draw a land. however the alchemists refuge can always come useful if you have one of your big creatures in your hand. it's like the opponent is attacking and you just say hmmm lets play this progenitor mimic and copy my original thragtusk than let it die and in your upkeep gain a bunch of life again. but the bad thing is that you only have 6 creatures that dont have flash so you decide. so i'd rather have the desolated lighthouse int htis deck but if you put in more creatures then the refuge. oh and one more question: why do you always write "type your deck name..." at the begin of your comments?

I played yesterday and it went SOOOOO bad. i went 0-3-0. i lost to junk rites, Naya blitz and a weird sceance deck..the thing is that i might now be used to play control. I started to play magic 2 years ago and i always played aggro so i need to get use to it. i would say i love playing control tho. i updated my deck frond what i really played yesterday,

can you comments on my real deck i played to tell me if that is wrong lol,

well i guess the problem is with the control part. if something big enters the battlefield you cant do anything. thats why i mentioned you to play more big creatures. thats the future. just look at jund midrange decks. you cant find creatures cheaper than 4 cmc. your type of deck that plays a lot of cheap control and some big creatures doesnt work any more you have to go for a lot of big creature and a few control like mizz mortars that can be played also at a low mana cost and a higher but with effect on the game. so i would make it 4 thrag, 4 huntmaster, 4 etherling, 4 farseek and just after these the control like snaps and stuff.

Wells first gamme. I Player against a deck playing séance and Mirror mad fantasm with laboratory maniac so he Miller himself Till He finds fantasm and maniac and won the gamme because He countered all i did. Second game against naya blitz i won m'y first match easly with triple thragtusk and mimic but the second sent bar because of his double caverne of souls and parish first turn yurd game sent the dame. Lastly m'y last matchup against rite i won m'y first game countering his rite second and third game He sided in more midrange and 3 caverne of souls so i lost to thragtusk+resto Angel followed by behemoth. So that it Is .. maybe i did something wrong..

the Seance thing! Seriously, though, I would consider swapping in something to the sideboard to deal with either the cavern of souls, or not being able to use counter spells. A few copies of ghost quarter would do you good. Then, use something to rid yourself of the mirror-mad (and many other problems). Pithing Needle! It shuts down so many awesome cards and is a great sideboard card!

Well the Seance thing is really insane.. and guess what.. the guy was playing guildgates. for trolling i guess ( he went to pro tour dragon's maze and pro tour gatecrash) I also think i will find an other store to start playing and to get better because in that store we are about 20 people at FNM and 5 of those are going to Pro tours.. so its quite hard.. and most people have unlimited budjet... 4 cavern.. 4 voice..4 huntmaster.. you see what im talking about.. no one have let say incomplete deck or Non optimal deck

So sorry for my grammar in english. im a french speaker
