Deck Description

I'm a fan of the Green Devotion deck with a splash of red and saw a version of this Green/Blue version somewhere online so I decided to make my own version. Kiora's Follower is a more versatile Voyaging Satyr, while Prime Speaker Zeganna adds more card draw on top of Garruk who was a key part of the deck. Kiora and Cyclonic Rift add some control and overall helps against some of the current metagame but the deck is still all about ramping up to insane amounts of mana fast and dropping tons of creatures on the board.

Wow, I'm actually surprised at the likes and comments. Thanks, and I'll definitely make some changes after reading the comments.

Changes: -4x Kiora's Follower, +3x Voyaging Satyr, -1 Nylea, +2 Courser of Kruphix
Sidboard Changes: + Simic Charms, Pithing Needle and Cyclonic Rift
- Bramblecrush, Nylea's Disciple, 1x Aetherling
Maybeboard: Kiora's Follower, Karametra's Acolyte, Prophet of Kruphix

Deck discussion for Green-Based Simic Devotion

Nice composition, seems potent. I like that you've put an original twist on the deck, but it still maintains a competitive edge. However I have to wonder where Courser/Prophet of Kruphix are at. Also, when I have made decks similar to this in the past Sylvan Primordial has always been a great help. Sideboard or even main deck material, I would think.

Courser would definitely find a nice home here as well as Boon Satyr actually, but I was building this around my current Green/Red shell, so by the time I got to the 60 cards I didn't have room for them.

I think Prophet of Kruphix is also good, but this deck is fast enough that Prophet of Kruphix didn't seem necessary for it's mana cost. While getting an extra round of creatures out during your opponent's turn is awesome, I can't roll up Garruk during the opponent's turn so I wouldn't have as many cards in my hand until my turn anyways, and I find that usually I have enough mana to play most of the cards I draw on my turn.

I'm interested in seeing Kruphix, God of Horizons in Journey Into Nyx.

Yeah I'm definitely looking forward to the remaining lesser-gods! Kruphix primarily, but Keranos for the flavor (lighting = Zeus? although Heliod has that role) and the rest are good color combinations too (Boros, Orzhov, Golgari)...

Love the deck. The sideboard seems a little scattered. I love the plummets and mystcutters but would up the creature removal for more horde decks. I'm a big fan of ratchet bomb. I like the sylan over the gyre sage:) good luck.

Thanks, I'll definitely need to playtest more to see what I'll need in the sideboard. Right now the competetive metagame seems very mono-Blue, mono-Black or Control focused, and the deck I based this on seemed to be wary of that. However, amonst my friends there is a lot of aggro so Ratchet Bomb might work well. Currently for the aggro, I have Cyclonic Rifts, and it isn't too hard to get the mana for overloading it so I might stick with that just because I can get every creature while Ratchet Bomb might leave some stragglers with a different CMC.

Not to say anything bad but the truth is that Green-Red works better only because of Burning-Tree Emissary. It is also why Green-Red Nylea Devotion is a thing. Kiora's Follower is significantly weaker in this deck merely because you can't cast it off Emissary like you could Voyaging Satyr. This makes your early game much weaker. I think you need to shape up it's early ramp a bit different.

Good luck on getting this deck to make up for that disadvantage.

Thanks for the comments, you're completely right about the advantages of Burning-Tree Emissary comboing into Voyaging Satyr. I didn't think about that, I only thought about the colors and the fact that Kiora's Follower could untap other permanents. I think I'll switch them back.

Umm. Blue Devotion has recently fallen off the face of the earth. No seriously nobody played it at the most recent big Standard event, a Starcitygames Invitational. The format is really not set yet, but I would prep for monoblack instead.

HOLY CRAP! Gruul Is taking over the meta! Dat Xenegos! Before BoTG it was all about that blue devotion.

Blue Devotion is still around, it was in Top 8 at Starcity Open Series (St. Louis). I do like Gruul Team though! Which has a lot of similarities to this deck (although this lacks Domri, Xenagos and Stormbreath Dragon). Black is still big, as are the Esper/Azorius Control with Sphinx's Revelation. There are quite a few decks taking prominence which makes it hard for any one deck to be prepared for everything.

its almost like Theros was the set the previous sets were prepping for. I guess thats good. Every color has a chance at the top.

Karametra's Acolyte, Renegade Krasis and Experiment One may be good additions to this deck. Also do NOT run 4 of nykthos. run 2.

Thanks, 4 Nykthos seems like a lot to me too, but I've seen it out there so I decided to try it. I actually personally only have 1 so far and I do run Karametra's Acolytes. It's a toss up between the 4-drop that nets you X mana each turn for free, or a land where you get X mana minus 2. Previously, Voyaging Satyr made Nykthos way more beneficial than Karametra's Acolyte, but now with Kiora's Follower you can untap either. Experiment One is always a solid 1-drop and Renegade Krasis is interesting too, but I'm not sure if I can find the room for them.

three words: PROPHET OF KRUPHIX

Why? Prophet is best, in my opinion, in a shell with creatures and instants that has some draw power and not too much mana ramp. There it can excel as something to power out lots of creatures and instants far faster than they should ever be played, while retaining a surprise factor for the instants. But here there are only 2 instants to work with. And there is so much mana ramp already that it just seems redundant. Between Nykthos, Voyaging Satyr, Elvish Mystic, and Sylvan Caryatid, he already dumps his hand pretty much as fast as possible. The main thing that holds him back is the constant issue of running out of cards to dump. That's why monogreen normally uses curvetoppers like Garruk and (in this version) Prime Speaker Zegana. They shore up the weakness to board wipes and ensures that monogreen will win the game if boardwipes do not appear. But Prophet doesn't help draw cards and if you've already dumped your hand it's basically a dead draw. So I would actually do my best to avoid Prophet, honestly

Yes, kmk888 is right. That's the exactly the reason why I didn't include them. Prophet of Kruphix is a great card though, especially in situations with more card draw and less mana.
