Deck discussion for Ooze Pod

I Just like Ooze and the idea to use it using activated ability of creatures that you sac RIGHT to play it, weel it's pretty fun!

First, this could be a better idea than other 'Chephalid Breakfast' tactics Modern style that I've seen, cause the Pod it's awesome to control the oppo with creatures like Shriekmaw.

But also a consideration on your creatures right now, I see the combo using activated effects of Grim Poppet/Quillspike and Devoted Druid to kill oppo creatures and inf mana, or make a inf/inf creature, but maybe it's better to put at least a Morselhoarder to make inf mana of any colour and it's also 6 mana instead of 7 of Grim Poppet so it's faster.

Also what about 1 Duskmantle Guildmage? When you're able to put the Morselhoarder and Devoted Druid into the graveyard while having Necrotic Ooze on the battlefield, it's a perfect creature to win by mill or direct damage.

Btw it's a good deck but you need a direct wincon like the one with Duskmantle Guildmage, cause you cannot ever count on directly attacking the oppo, what if he use fog and delay one turn and you've your necrotic ooze tapped? I play a Necrotic Ooze (not Modern but if you like it's here http://www.mtgvault.com/hextar13/decks/necrotic-breakfast-v2/) and I find using A single card that give you 2 different wincon just amazing! Also the deck I'm going to actually buy it's a Melira Pod (http://www.mtgvault.com/hextar13/decks/persistent-victory-20/), that's maybe more stable than this whole deck so I suggest you to think about something like that if you're considering to make it a tournament deck, not saying mine it's actually perfect, maybe I'm also better if you're able to criticize it xD

One last thing, this is fondamentally a combo deck and you will hate cards like pithing needle, so Abrut Decay it's perfect, maybe 4x it's even better and consider using something like Duress to have a better control on the oppo!

Wow, thanks for the comment, I'm actually going to build a Melira Pod too, but Hierarchs went nuts with the DRS ban, and Chord of Calling, fecth lands, etc... are expensive, so this is my "in the meantime" deck.

That cleared up, Morselhoarder seems perfect as a 6 mana step, maybe not removing Grim Popet but run a copy of each. I dunno about Duskmantle Guildmage but Orzhov Guildmage sure seems like a good fit as I can hard cast it as a blocker into pod (easier to get 2 black mana if no birds are on play). It still has the one of the win conditions.

I agree with abrupt decay and I might run 4 of them, I just find Lead the Stampede amazing when you need to feed the troll, or need more things on board for direct pod into ooze route, or Fauna them to get the oozes.

Duress/Inquisition/Thoughtseize are pretty good, but I think is better to run them on sideboard, usually vs Jund, they help you put some things on the graveyard, specially with Liliana.

One win condition i have found at least vs Jund, is you might not be able to combo, but Thornling alone can beat the crap out of Goyf, and there is little they can do about it. aggro is still nice with Thornling in play.

I'll check your decks for ideas and test the hoarder out :) one last thing, What are your thoughts on Jarad as a Quillspike into "Rite of Consuption" win condition? its easy to drop on 4 (or fauna pod into it) and your quillspike/ooze dont need to connect.

Well that's a good secondary wincon, also cause the oppo may expect a Necrotic Ooze but you instead play him the Ooze.

Infact the problem of a player that play abusing graveyard persist, cause a graveryard hate like tomrod's crypt will block the ooze, but if you're still able to play Jarad, a Quillspike and a Devoted Druid, them make Quillspike bigger and sac him to Jarad; it's awesome that thery have 2,3 and 4 mana, so an oppo will maybe mulligan to obtain a graveyard hate, and then playing it will be sure that your combo is now screwed, but you will be able to win at turn 5 (cause summoning sickness of Jarad) anyway xD

Yeah and usually you can pod a Finks twice into an Ooze AND Jarad, devoted can kill herself anytime, you just need the quillspike in the graveyard. Jarad's ability does not cause him to tap so as soon as you pod both, at the end of turn, you can just combo right there.
