Deck Description

Standard, Esper control...

How to Play

Not much to tell about the mechanism... ...it works as your usual control deck, but not so simple... ...it has more destructive power, with huge drawpower & stabil finishers...

I have extra finishers in the sideboard, because I want to be ready for Slaughter Games wich destroyes control decks with few finishers... ...other cards with similar abilities can be countered...

I'm not afraid of decks with a strong set of removal, 'cuz AEtherling is almost untouchable & more than enough to finish the job... :)

I have both Eviction & Downfall, so Jace, Memory Adept won't be a problem... ...that's the reason why I chose not to run Elixir of Immortality in the sideboard... ...mill decks have weakened since rotation anywayes.......

Riot control, if used along with the removal I have, fast aggro decks won't stand a chanse, nor token decks...

The Keyrunes are basically for ramp, but if nesesarry, in time, even 1 of them can finish the opponent off, since I can clean the board about anytime...

I'm thinking about adding Thoughtsize... ...may be 3 to the sideboard somehow... ...it works well with Quicken as you can use Thoughtsize that way even if the opponent has no cards in hand... ...when he draws in his/her draw step, you cast Thoughtsize with Quicken & it works, the opponent won't be able to cast his/her last chanses at late-game.......

That's all... ...suggestions are wellcome!..

Enjoy!

Deck discussion for Merciless Verdict & Serenity

Nice deck you got there

I would def put Detention sphere in the main board so reduce 1 azorius charm and read the bone and put detention sphere up( It helps to get rid of the gods)

May be you're right...

The reason why it can deal with gods is why I put it in the sideboard... ...but enchantments these dayes can easily get destroyed, or exiled, so it's often just temporary...

I can't drop the Charm & Bones, 'cuz I need that many cheap draw...

The best way to deal with the gods in this deck is to return them into the opponent's hand, than counter them... ...tough I don't have much counters here... :)

Anywayes... ...I have Mercyless Eviction(a 3 of) & that exiles the gods... ...even when I use Verdict, only the gods remain, so they won't stay creatures, only enchantments, so they can't deal damage.......

It was a good suggestion tough... ...but I have 24 lands & many-many draw here, so 6 lands alwayes come in 6-8 turns, usually 6-7, so Eviction is very easy to cast... :)

Thanks!

that maybe be true but what if opponent has counter decks it can counter merciless eviction :P

Than I'll just have to sideboard all 3 Negates :)

8 lands is still easy to get fast with this deck... ...& still, when I cast Verdict, it can't be countered & only the gods remain & only as enchantments... ...so they won't be a bother & I'll easily strike in with AEtherling :)

I also have Riot Control, if I lack to remove everything :)

I'll get more, than enough time with that little card... :)

The main problem is, I know the deck would be more effective, with 1 more finisher card... ...than the stability would be perfect, but I donno' what 1 card I could take out for it...

In the main deck you really don't need 3 aetherling I would replace one with an elspeth. Elspeth can help you if your behind by putting out 3 blockers a turn as well as end the game very quickly.
Fast aggro looks like it would eat this deck alive as you only have 6 turn 2 plays and cyclonic rift puts it back in hand. You lack a lot of spot removal so your in a position where if you don't draw verdict// can't cast verdict or they make their creatures indestructible in response you normally will lose.

Also only 24 land makes hitting your 7+ mana crds like aetherling (he costs 6 but you don't play him till you have 8) or your other finisher take a long time against control. Which lets them get back into otherwise in winnable games.

You have a point... ...it's logical... ...tough I've tested this deck & it works well against both aggro & other control decks... ...only, against control, I need to sideboard after game-1...

I alwayes draw what I need in time, since I have very strong drawpower here... ...& if Verdict does not work, I'd just use Eviction... ...about 95 times out of 100, I can cast an Eviction within the 1st 8 turns of the game... ...that's enough, 'cuz Azorius Charm, Cyclonic Rift & Hero's Downfall until than.......

When the opponent playes Boros Charm &/or Rootborn Defences it's a bother for Verdict & Downfall, but it won't alwayes happen', I just have to prepare for it in the early game... ...that time, I sideboard all Negates, so I can back up Verdict(I alwayes get my 6th mana in turn 5, or 6)... ...Riot Control is basically for fast aggro decks & when I have that, I alwayes have enough time to take control.......

AEtherling could be played, when you have 7 lands, you don't need 8... ...it's enough to be able to protect it for 1 the turn you cast it...

Thanks for your comment! I understand your doubts, but I've tested this deck in 2 stores now & it works... :)

...tough, I'm not taking it to FNM...

...you are right about AEtherling... ...2 is enough, so I'm gonna' use the 2nd Serenity mainboard...

2 mana normally protects aetherling for 1 turn I'll show you
Aetherling -> d-sphere
Exile atheling -> in response doom blade
Aetherling dies to doom blade before his exile trigger resolves. So often 2-3 mana is needed depending on how much instant speed removal you think they have

Personally, I would take this to FNM (if I had the cards) just because I like Esper and I like playing control.

True, Trollking... ...sometimes you need 8-9 mana, especially, 'cuz there isn't much creatures in this deck & so the opponent can keep his/her removal for mid/late-game... ...tough my experience is, that if I play control, they just sideboard some of their creature-removal out... ...there were still times, when I needed 8 mana to protect AEtherling, but usually when I start finishing the match, I have about 9-12 mana, depending on how resellient the opponent's deck is for all my wipes, 'cuz if it is resellient, than I can not linger forever waiting for the treats to come....... :)
