Deck Description

UNDER CONSTRUCTION!
I will present the basic idea in the description and put all cards I consider in the sideboard. This should give an idea where I am aiming at. Then you can just shout card names in the comment section that might fit and throw around ideas. At one point I will put everything together.

------------------------------------------------------

This deck is built around Thornbite Staff:
Equipped creature has "{2}, {T}: This creature deals 1 damage to target creature or player" and "Whenever a creature dies, untap this creature."
Whenever a Shaman creature enters the battlefield, you may attach Thornbite Staff to it.
Equip {4}

So, that thing turns my creatures into Goblin Sharpshooters. I can abuse this in two ways:
A) Giving creatures the ability to "ping" that already have special abilities when they damage something. Like Stigma Lasher.
B) Giving creatures the ability to untap that have a nasty ability that requires them to tap (but doesn't cost much or any mana). Bloodthirsty Ogre.

Bonus points if that creature is a shaman because then I can equip the staff for free. Like Kiki-Jiki.

I've already checked all shamans, so you don't need to do that. And I found a dozen or so creatures that would go well with the Staff. Here are your tasks:

* Find more creatures that work well with the Staff
* Make suggestions which creature mix (and therefore colours) to run
* What else will this deck need? For example I will need a way to tutor for the Staff (but so far blue is out of question)

Deck discussion for Biting Shamans

Some combos with Thornbite Staff:

Elemental Mastery + Seething Pathblazer. (Red combo)
Elemental Mastery + Nankuto Husk (red and black)

Demonic Hordes + Nature's Revolt (Black and green combo)

Nantuko Husk + Presence of Gond (black and green combo)

Viridian Longbow + Thornweald Archer

If you were to run blue, which might also be a better way to search for the Staff, combos you could consider:

Royal Assassin + Frozen AEther (black and blue combo)

Plus, if you add blue...you get Changelings. They count as Shamans. Right? Amoeboid Changeling shows great experimental promise. Make non shaman creatures shaman creatures as he wishes.

Speaking of Changelings:

Moonglove Changeling + Power of Fire (black and red combo)

Speaking of Sharpshooters...what about Lightning Crafter. .

Good luck!

Most of those combos look nice but would add way too many components that I need to have in play. Or would shift the deck into something specialized - don't get me wrong, you did phenonimal suggestions here, but if I include something like Demonic Hordes plus Nature's Revolt, I'd have to build the entire deck around that combo.

Royal Assassin looks like the most potent of those because he is already useful on his own and deadly just with the Staff (you can then kill an entire attacking army as long as they don't have vigiliance). He will be in for sure if the deck will be black.

I forgot about changelings. They just don't have useful abilities. I might run Shapesharer and try to snag useful creatures from my opponents :)

I forgot deathtouch ... wow! Thornweald Archer is definately a good pick! Baleful Strix is another top choice but blue not exactly the colour I am aming for. Glissa, the Traitor would be a good addition, mostly because she is powerful on her own but also because she can bring back Staffs that have been destroyed. However, I have to trade for her. Harvester of Souls migt become the "boss" of this deck.

Lightning Crafter - I don't know, I have to champion a shaman, usually taking away another good target for the staff. Then again I get that one back when the Crafter dies ... putting him on the list for nor, but have to trade for him anyway.

The Crafter is a shaman.

How did you forget deathtouch?!

I think both the "give deathtouch shaman a thornbite staff (vampire nighthawk)" and "give deathouch to a pinger (goblin sharpshooter + basilisk collar)" themes are overdone. Out of the two, shamans would make a cooler deck.

I would like to see you abuse thornbiter staff in a new way - letting Rakka Mar hold it, for example. Bomb their blockers to oblivion, then hit with 2 or more 3/1 elementals.

Happy deck building!

I don't know, I just forgot deathtouch ... maybe precisely because it's overdone. Otoh, that's why I make these decks public, sometimes you need somebody to point out the obvious.
Overdone or not, I recently obtained 2 Basilisk Collars and therefore gonna use them.

and agreed on the Rakka Mar thing, I am moving it from sideboard (ideas) to main now.

I had 2 Collars, and sold them. Was given to me (along with thousands of other cards...my old friend from school visited me and gave me his entire collection: the idea was...if he had Mtg cards around...he would just keep spending money on them).

I sold them for a decent price to a card company. I have (with other cards I sold them) 55 dollars in credit. Was thinking about buying my green land destruction deck with it.
Or finishing my Goblin Deck. I need 4 Goblin Lackeys. Those aren't cheap!!!

Why don't you invest in some master transmuters? :)

Ugh? Me or Jessie? I don't think I will add blue to this deck.

Assuming me. I do not want them, as of yet, because I do not have any decks built with them.
They are very nice cards, though.

- Bosk Banneret, makes them cheaper. is a shaman
- Hostillity, if you are going for burn, makes tokens. is not a shaman
- Rage forger, buffs shamans works with hostillity. is a shaman
- Burning tree, gives some control shaman works also with hostillity. is a shaman

Bosk Banneret:
Yeah, but my shamans aren't exactly expensive. Also I don't know yet how many shamans the deck will have. I'll consider him if the deck turns out to be heavy with shamans.

Hostility:
I won't have room for burn spells, I will do most damage with "pinging" effects and the tricks the creatures offer. Hostility only works with spells. I do have zero spells.

Rage Forger:
Might work depending on the shamans I use. I need creatures (shamans) that trigger an effect when damaging opponents. Added to sideboard.

Burning Tree Shaman:
Erm, no - I'd kill myself if I play this guy :)

Shred Memory can be a fetch engine for the Staff.

Mana Skimmer, maybe? IF you have lots of stuff like Terror...and you get to untap the Staff 2 or 3 times in one turn...Skimmer could absolutely ruin opponent's mana base.

You ask "what else this deck may need." I think it is like i mentioned...you need, perhaps, some Edicts/Murder/Terror...something that lets you keep untapping Staff. The Collar isn't enough, by itself. Or something like Nekrataal.

Night Dealings could work...damn slow and only viable in multiplayer though.

Pit Spawn is okay with Staff.

Sidenote...looking through cards and found Spiteful Bully...nice combo with Stuffy Doll...anyways, back to searching:

Vein Drinker is very iffy...probably not a good fit.

Probably another bad fit...but possible choice would be Talon of Pain. The Staff would constantly be pumping him up.

Barbed Shocker and Shocker.

Crazy card would be something like Mudbutton Torchrunner and Staff...in emergency, nuke your own creature. It is going to do 3 damage to your opponent...plus it is going to untap your Staff, tap it to do 1 more damage.

Would something like Power of Fire and the Staff stack damage? You could take it that way.

Finally, Cunning Sparkmage :) It combos so damn nicely with Collar.

Good luck!

Shred Memory:
It's a pity that all transmute cards for cc3 suck so much ... although exiling stuff is sometimes crucial. Hm.

Night Dealings:
That's an interesting card, have never seen this before! Have to trade for it, though. But I like that, coukd see it in a lot of decks.

Pit Spawn:
Yes, rhouoght of that, but he will probably be way out of the mana curve. Could add him as a "boss" type of card - I usually like to have 1 or 2.

Vein Drinker:
Could work well! Have for trade for it, too.

(Barbed) Shocker:
Way too risky and pointless. You do not really want to give my buddies fresh hands for no reason.

Mudbutton Torchrunner:
That's too cute and harmless even for me :)

Power of Fire:
I consider Arcane Teachings (it's in the sideboard) and would play that over Power of Fire.

About removal spells ... what about Death Pits of Rath? If I have that, a single ping kills. And with the staff ... I kill everything! My creatures will die from anything, too, however.

Death Pits is a very viable card in the deck. It is a very dangerous card, as mentioned, in that it can make your creatures very easy to kill too. But also very viable.
